I am looking for a new weight distribution hitch for my truck. 2017 ram 2500, towing a 22’ enclosed trailer. I don’t want to use an adaptor on the hitch so I am looking for a 2.5 inch shank. I would like USA made, and best quality for the dollar. I know this has been discussed but The search feature was not working well for me. Thank you in advance!

I had the Reese dual cam sway control W/D system on my old trailer. Could not stand the dual cam system. Was effective but pain in the butt to hookup and the loud popping noise on turns was irritating. I also didn’t like having to drill holes in the tongue.

I sold the whole setup and bought the Equalizer system for my new trailer. They offer a 6” drop shank, 2 2/2” which is the most I could find. I would not use the Mopar supplied spacer in the hitch as the whole setup adds too much slop.

I too have a 2017 Ram 2500.

With the Reese setup I had their Titan 2 1/2” drop shank but it was quite a bit longer which I didn’t like as that adds more stress on the trucks hitch receiver. I believe the Titan shank was really designed for use with motorhomes, etc.

We are using the Anderson NO sway equalizer hitch with or 30 ft behind the MH.
Very happy with it.

i am going to put my head on the chop block but hear goes.
1. the shank must be long enough to engage past bracing on receiver
2.(imo)there is nothing better than the old design theory (chains, square bars ect)
3.sway bars are needed sometimes but not all

honesty is the best policy, insanity is a better deffense

I bought a Reese dual cam hitch in 1988 when I first bought an enclosed trailer. I still use it but it’s time to retire it. Equalizer is the hitch that gets the highest ratings these days. My Reese has been used on every tow vehicle and trailer for 30 years. I’ve used various receiver bars depending on what height I needed. Currently still using that hitch with my motorhome with an add on friction sway control. 1000lb trunnion style bars. Behind every other tow vehicle sway was non existent. Behind my short wheelbase class C I have to be careful around trucks and in crosswinds. Basically just slow down....

Thanks for the replies, when picking the hitch, is it better to upsize to the largest I can within reason or should I size it according to tongue weight? I don’t know the tongue weight of my current set up. Any easy at home ways of checking tongue weight?

You can easily rig up a bathroom scale to get an approximate tongue weight. I did it last year and also readjusted my hitch bars exactly the way it should be done. Handling got better. You can find some videos on making a homemade tongue weight measuring lever setup. Just Google It for the details. My tongue weight was higher than I expected. Over 1100lbs.....

This is an affordable way to check the tongue weight.

I use the Equalizer hitch also, love it!

Beware! You need a HUGE socket to put the thing together and not many people have one. E-Town had one, but no breaker bar, Harbor Freight supplied that and it didn't snap on me! Smile

Look on e-trailer and read the comments, they mention the size of the socket in some of them. It comes with a ball, don't need to order a seperate one.

I looked at the install video for this hitch and am impressed. No grease needed although I’d put some on the ball. I always keep the bars well grease where they install into the hitch. I’m considering replacing my 15yr old Draw-Tite with this.

Anyone else here use this Andersen hitch on a 1500 or 2500 truck? No sway ?

I liked the way the Andersen worked, as always with a new product was anxious to see it work in real life, it does.
No problems with backing, and it stores away much easier than the bars.
It does take a few minutes to set it, but not a problem.
If Mike Beck is speaking of the socket, it comes with the package and I use a long handle 1/2 ratchet to do the tightening.
Used it for most of the 2018 season and no disappointments in the performance.
The trailer tracks so straight behind the motorhome, even when the 18 wheelers go by, and very stable in a stiff crosswind also.

This is the Equal-i-zer hitch I just switched to. Towed the new trailer 600 miles home from the factory.

Performed flawlessly.

Thanks guys, I am going to go with the equalizer set up, I haven’t gotten a chance to get my tongue weight yet but as far as selection which hitch, is there a negative to going with the heavier hitch? Let’s say for kicks I have 800lbs tongue weight is it better to go with the 10,000/1000 hitch, or better to go for the 14,000/1400 hitch and not have to worry about future trailers or upgrading down the road?

I was thinking less than $500.00

Website shows $519-$569 depending on which kit you need.

We needed the 4 in. drop and the smaller shank. But still rated at 14,000 LBs.

Just ordered a new 32' Intech. Where can I get the best price when ordering a new Equal-I-zer Hitch? I am assuming I will need to change the 6" brackets to 8"?
