I'm considering adding a shot (dry) just to make up for the poor atmospheric conditions through the hot months. My season average DA readings go from -400' to 3000', water grains from 40's to 120's. I'd just like to keep the car in my "happy place" (6.55 to 6.65) when it's hot. I'm thinking that a dry 50 shot should do something? I stay jetted on the fat side, the ET swing on natural DA is right at 2 tenths from best to worst. Thoughts or experiences? "Despite the high cost of living, it remains popular." Dave Cook N375 | ||

I don't think a 50 shot would make much difference, I'd look at a 100 shot and tune from there. However, since you're running a carb, I also wouldn't consider a dry shot with fat jetting, I'd just install a simple plate and use a wet shot. I think that would offer more flexibility in a tune. Humidity is what really kills performance, this would allow you some room to play so to speak. My thoughts anyway.... I would also use a wet shot plate.....I won many races years ago using the button to womp-womp at the finish line...a dry plate wouldnt jump a couple of feet like a wet plate... . Dave F J B | |||

Sounds like a lot of work to stay in your "happy place", this is bracket racing. I'm with the others with using a wet shot. It will still be a lot of work to manage a .1 or.2 gain to make you happy. Below is a discontinued dry shot system, the max jet was only 30 hp! I have a complete NOS cheater kit with purge,just mocked up never has juice in the bottle. All in perfect shape if you need one. | |||

Goob, What is more important? Low ET or consistency? if consistency then a small shot turned on early will keep it clean. ET will likely require going the wet route with all the details that go with that. The car is stupid good already, but I'd like to keep my converter flash rpm, wheelie, and 60' time in the spot where it just all feels right. We race better together like that. (Probably just in my head, but it's there) I just need the HP back that poor atmosphere robs me of. I'm not looking to play spray and slide or anything. I agree with you only needing 50hp shot. Again, IMO a wet kit. I think it would be best to talk with a NOS manufacture. Nitrous Express does have a basic adjustable Hitman plate nitrous system. In the instructions it does give jetting recommendations for 50hp. Below is the full article with some tips. I'll pull the key areas out as they wrote. There are many other items/procedures you are going to have to add to the nitrous kit. "There are four important factors to contend with in tuning a nitrous-boosted engine. I was always impressed with the results of the little NOS Top Shot which sprayed down the throttle bodies. Think that through. I've kicked this around and always arrive at the same conclusion - its just one more thing to worry about and will eventually screw me. I am learning that despite having the "best crap" this stuff on a racecar is not very reliable. Only reason I would have it was to make up for a horrible light or a for sure spin leaving on crappy track to make it look like I was still in the race....but then i would probably screw that up. | |||

Yup, that's the reality. My poor little flat tappet smallblock struggles with the heat. I did lean it up just a touch this past season and narrowed that spread a little bit,(about .15) but I always looked forward to those late fall days when the wheelies are better. Possibly, but it's not all about the wheelie, it's the total feeling in the seat. I feel it's purely a function of lost HP. I lose 200-250 RPM on the converter flash, raising the 2-step setting doesn't really affect that. "Despite the high cost of living, it remains popular." Dave Cook N375 | |||

Did you find the NOS Top Shot kit? I looked but apparently, it's discontinued. I've been interested in this thread because I'm researching nitrous for my combo. I'll be using it for different reason than you; and not the spray & dump/slide. I'll use it as a scramble button & fishing. Yes, I meant fishing! Let me add another rabbit hole discussion about NOS.... Why couldn't I use a pressure regulator, for my intended use? One of my points is that I never want to have to add "another thing to monitor", that being bottle pressure. I understand that for making maximum HP you want to deliver the NO2 to the jet in liquid form,(?) but for what I want to do with it, I'd think that a regulated pressure of 300-500 p.s.i., in vapor form, would do the trick, and the bottle would last much longer between fills. ?? Remember I'm really just looking to cool and dry the intake air to regain my NA horsepower. (Sounds like I need to put it on alky, huh?) LOL "Despite the high cost of living, it remains popular."
