Bruce the step down resistor isnt because of the 16 volts its because your running an alternator, its the same as having main power on while charger is on sending 18-19 volts to the electrical system, it can "possibly" cause issues with some components. That's why I have never ran or felt I needed a alternator since I made the switch to 16 volts several years ago.

So how much is a step down resistor and where do I get them?

Bruce already tried a centrifugal pump, it would not run in his car - the way it is plumbed will require a reverse flow system to make a centrifugal pump pump work. He is best off with a vane/positive displacement pump.

He has a horizontal radiator and the pump is higher than the radiator.

The pump I tried was the BMW electric pump and it did not work well. It does not move much water at all so I went back to the Maziere pump. My radiator is mounted horizontal and the pump is same level as it but the hose from radiator to pump goes up about three inches to go over a frame rail. Radiator, pump and hose is lowest part of the system. It was actually working really good until pump quit.

As for the Jabcso pump I ran a Sherwood pump on my other car for years that was real similar and it worked very good but those have gone stupid expensive and hard to find and it said they are not for hot water applications.

I had a Meziere on my last car for about 10 years and thousands of passes, and have one on my current car that must be almost 10 years old as well, both were 12 volt but with an alternator and I have never had one fail. Probably one of the most trouble-free items on my car. I’m not saying that to debate your post, but so many people seem to have excellent results with them that it would make me look for something else that may be contributing to the failures.

I have a Meziere on my car and 16 volt battery and I charge while cooling the car done without any issues. I plan on putting alternator on it this year which would be the same as charging while running the pump.
Meziere is by far the best I have seen or worked on.

We also charge and run an alternator. 16volt. 4 years no issues.

Good to hear you are running 16 volt systems with no issues. I went to that system to eliminate problems. I have friend who has same Maziere pump I have I can borrow. So I will do that and send my other one to Maziere to rebuild. That keeps me from having to buy another new one just for one race.

Maziere can look at it and tell me why it failed.

I still think there has to be a better option but the BMW water pump I tried was not it. Lol.

If I have to do step down regulators for fan, water pump, primer pump and everything else then the 16 volt system will have to go as that is not an improvement.

Do you spell Meziere wrong on purpose? You're the only one in this thread spelling it wrong. Maybe you have a Chinese Maziere and that's why you're having problems.

I can promise all MEZIERE product are made right here in Escondido CA, in the good old USA.

Now if it say M(A)ziere, I have know idea what that is or where it made.

Meziere Tech.
Make sure your water pump is on whenever you check your coolant level.

PUBLIC APOLOGY

I borrowed another pump today and as I was checking things out I found a wire disconnected. Nothing wrong with the pump at all.

I apologize for the mistake. With the few drops of water leaking when I first put motor back in and going to a 16 volt system I assumed the pump had failed and I was wrong. I am sorry.

I changed from my Sherwood Aqua Tiger that was like 14 years old to a Dedenbear remote pump. All because my water level was low. I guess you’re supposed to check it every now and then. LOL

I run a step down box on the water pump only since the 16 volts spins it so fast it tends to cavitate. I also run an alternator on mine, no issues in six seasons.
