I'm considering converting my standard 15X15 rims to a set of bead lock rims and have a few questions. This is a 2100# S/G '27 Roadster with a 1076 hp 582, typically a 162-164 mph car. (1) Whether to use a single bed lock, or a double bead lock. (2) Is the Titanium hardware on a single bead lock worth the additional expense? (3) How much the added weigh of a single bead (verses a conventional rim) adversely effects the reaction time on a .400 tree. (4) Stability of bead locks vs the conventional rims. Thanks for any replies. Bob

Bob, I converted my 15 inch to 16. Double beadlock and I don’t regret it at all but note that you might have to clearance by grinding your calipers. I run Lamb brakes and had to do a little clearance work. Good luck with whatever you decide! Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right. Here I am.......

Bob, do double beadlock or none at all. I see no reason for Titanium hardware on a SG car but its your money

I agree with Big Steve on this one. Double Beadlocks will keep tire from pulling off rim at high RPM. There is a video somewhere of a dragster on burnout where tires grew and came off rims damaging wheels and tires. The little Bubbas and baby bubbas require beadlocks because the tread is not as wide as rim and I think that would make it come off rim easier if it was not clamped down. But that would also make car more stable. I have not tried them or weighed them yet but it does not feel like my new Beadlocks weigh any more than my old wheels do. So up to you if you think the Titanium fasteners are worth the money. https://postimg.cc/gallery/np3zpruo/ "Dunning-Kruger Effect" -a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. 2X check and see if you have caliper room for the double beadlocks I had to go single because I have old wilwoods and not gonna grind on whats stopping me at the big end, but alot of people do and it works, just not me, and I make a mark on the inside bead and it has never moved 3 sets of them by Holeshot in Florida

No, S/ST car runs mid 9's flat out 2800lbs

Couple of thoughts, I’d go double beadlock and skip the titanium hardware. I believe the beadlock stiffens the sidewall some as well so you shouldn’t lose any RT. Lamb brakes on one car, MW on the other, RBZ 16” double bead locks clear both.

Not sure what this means....Id say S/St cars these days run form mid 10's to high 7's... At any rate echo what's been said. Go double or don't bother. FWIW I have used MacFab beadlocks for my last few wheels. They can walk you though what will work as far as clearance. Most everyone has a backspace limit to a double. Had a conversation with MacFab this morning. They converted a set of 15's for a friend with another Davis Roadster who lives in Ohio, everything cleared the calipers. Shipping will be about $500 (round trip). Thanks for the help Pat. Bob

Al, I believe he is voting no and has a S/ST car that runs mid 9s flat out at 2800lbs without beadlocks.

Could be...If that's the criteria look at Comp...pretty hard to find a lot of beadlocks there ![]() "I am not ashamed to confess I am ignorant of what I do not know." Marcus Tullius Cicero

I don't think that is part of his criteria. Bob asked if he is a Super Gas racer and he said, "No, S/ST." Tony Leonard

Missed that Lenny, thanks. His comment makes more sense seeing that.
