I had mentioned ordering new set of rocker arms in another thread. What I ordered is a mixed material rocker set with aluminum arms on the intakes & chrome-moly steel on the exhaust. They're being shipped out today.

The full aluminum set I have on the engine now is low run set. I wanted this mixed set to add more boost to the tune. While I'm going to put the mixed set on, I don't have time to change the tune & add boost before the Spring Fling races. More boost will have to wait till after the Fling. I'm keeping the low run aluminum set as spares. I have a high run aluminum set I can take out of the trailer & put on the shelf.

I would hate to see what a full set steel arms would cost; this mixed set was $2500. That's just the arms/shaft assembly.

The Manton billet steel set I have for my BRX18 heads is a little over $5,100…but I figure if they can live in a Noonan Hemi, they shouldn’t ever break on me

That didn’t include the stands? What style tips are on those?

Stands not included, I don't have a need for them. The heads are already set-up with the stands. It saves some money & it's what I did with the last set.

As for the tips, I didn't specify. I've used the bushed & bearing tips & really didn't notice a difference with either.

Here's one set, only regret is I should have bought a complete set of steel. I installed them this afternoon. Smile

If I read the receipt correctly, it would have been another $552 to upgrade the intake sides. That wouldn't have hurt my racing fund that hard.

The aftermarket SS and billet rockers look like jewelry compared to the aluminum imho. I’ve seen some aftermarket aluminum rockers fail. Has anyone seen aftermarket steel rockers that failed?

MarkeMark, some of the rocker arm trouble comes from racers holding the gas pedal all the way downSmile My granny told me that when I burned out the clutch in her '51 Plymouth.

What is the actual weight difference between the steel and aluminum? I run full shaft T&Ds on my BB mopar but if I build another engine I might do the steel as they should probably last me the rest of my racing days. They will be individual shaft setup like yours.

I have broke several aluminum and loaned my spares to guys that broke aluminum.

I don't know & didn't want to take the time to weigh.

I'm on time constraints with testing & racing this weekend. Plus, preparing for the Spring Fling Million the end of the month.

Call T&D, it’d be interesting to know difference in weight.

I purchased Crower Stainless Steel for sbc and these are forgings, not CM like I believe Bryan has. Crower billet if offered are $750 more a complete set over the SS. The Crower SS set complete were very reasonable.

"Steel Rockers
The Ultimate Rocker for Strength and Endurance

T&D steel shaft-mount rockers are engineered for applications with more extreme cylinder pressures and longer duration use. T&D uses a proprietary chrome-moly construction that minimizes flex and valve train distortion, ensuring reliable valve train performance. T&D steel rockers are also designed to minimize weight but with the highest strength on the market."

I would be willing to bet that the only thing "proprietary" is that, that is the alloy they use. LOL

Probably 4140 but I guess it is possible they could be having a special alloy made.
