I've been running Hoosier 18370 (33.0/15.5-15S DO5 compound) for the past several years on 15 inch wide rims but now that it's time to replace them. I've been offered a deal on a similar Mickey Thompson set, 3084 (33.0/15.0-106 X8 compound). The Micky's are slightly narrower, with a 2 inch greater roll out and a different compound.

Tire are expensive so I'm interested feedback on how well these Mickey's have performed on similar weight/horse powered car. I have a 2100# car with a 1067 hp S/G car (1.80/4.29 gear).

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Bob

I run the 3080 on my truck in S/ST. Been 160+ in S/ST at 3200 with zero issues. Currently have 100ish passes on this set and 60's are pretty damn consistent. Last race I ran the last 5 60's were within .001, 1.839-1.840. FWIW mine is a 1.80/4.30

Thanks Al:

My (old) Hoosiers were unable to hold the grip in high gear when the stop came off. Wall to wall ride, most of the time on two "side" wheels.

Second question:

The MT's I am getting are X8 compound. Not familiar with X8, what is the application?

I've been running the 3080 for years (when available) I am switching to the 18372 Hoosier just because MT quality control is not very good. If you get a set of the MT's that will balance and are constructed correctly they are an awesome tire. I just get tired of going through 2 or pair to get a good one. They have always exchanged them no questions asked but the expense and hassle to mount and balance just to go to the track and car vibrates. My last 2 sets in the last 2 weeks one tire needed 11OZ to balance and still wasn't smooth. They sent me another set and they had defects where the tread halves met up and had 2 big flat spots.

On my new 3069W tires I asked about the L8, M5 and X8 and he said all three of those are nearly the same compound. I think the Hoosier D05 is way softer than the MT compounds.

I believe you will really like the MT tires. I bet your car will be a little faster and more consistent. Should stop those scary rides when it comes off the stop. Really think you will like the MT tires a lot. Please get back with us and let us know how you like them.

Got the tire, they were not 3080 but unfortunately MT 3084's (33-16.5/15) 106 roll out. These aren't going under this car unless I cut the rear fenders off and use a half dozen spacers to clear the frame. I'm considering using the Hoosier 18260's (stiff side wall 32-14.8/15 DO5) that I ran for years with the smaller, but decent 540.

This is a fairly lite car and I can manage the starting line hit several ways so the narrower 14.8 shorter 102.5 should be fine.

Should consider the 30771 been running my 3200lb car with awesome consistency for last several years. Never an issue with them.

First set I tried, going from running Hoosiers for years - I could not believe the difference. They were given to me by a friend to just give a try. He ran them and offered them to me to give a try. I ran them for about 1 year until I couldn't see the dimples anymore and a few cords snuck up on me. But they never quite working 60ft were always with in few thousands, at high 1.2s. I went to order another set and couldn't find the number. I come to learn MT changed the numbers and the tires he gave me were from 2006! This was about 4 years ago! The 30771 was the new number and they hold up really good.

Configuration: 3350#, 582 C.I.,

60 - 1.24
1/8 - 5.53@ 126MPH
1/4 - 8.73@ 159MPH

3700#+210lb driver, FULL interior, through mufflers, 10.5 tire.
60'-1.333 (IN 4000ft DA! Joisy Math excluded; 1.25sec using JOISY MATH.) Wink
1/4 - 9.60@144MPH

Let us know how different they are to your Hoosiers. I ran 8lbs of air in my 18250 Hoosiers. Put on a set of 3074 MT and had to drop down to 6.5lbs.
