Is there such a thing as an electric crankcase vacuum system? Or are all engine driven vane type?

If I remember correctly a few decades ago some guys tried using a GM electric smog pump as a vacuum pump. Never tried it but the idea didn't last long so I guessing it didn't work very well.

I have friends who use the electric GM smog pump on their engines. They do help get water out of the crankcase. They don’t build vacuum like a vane pump. A few inches of vacuum if everything is sealed up well. Don’t pull much under full throttle it they do what is wanted from them.

I think Star Machine is the best option. I tried an electric smog pump for a while. It's good to pull moisture from the crankcase when you're sitting in the pits but doesn't pull enough vacuum while going down the track. I've since switched to a belt driven pump.

There's a GM electric vacuum pump meant to supply the power brake booster that some people use. Can't remember the exact vehicles it was on, maybe diesels? It moves a fair volume of air.

I may try an electric pump with my next buildup. It seems like a good way to purge water after a day of racing.

Pro’s used ( while back) an 18volt battery pack with a vac pump rear to boost vac to over 22. I’ll have to look next week. It can be done yes! If memory serves me the electric GM pump could only build 8-10? Better than nothing! Benefit with vac are huge.

Some Vegas used them. Good luck finding one.

The one I used back in the day came off an S10 pickup I thought. OK for pulling some moisture out of the engine if you run alky, but nowhere near good enough to pull sufficient vacuum at WOT.

Never seen an electric pump on the new diesels ? Maybe I missed that? All I’ve seen are pulley mounted diesel vac pumps. They can build 10” or more too.
