In short, yes. Shouldn't be an issue. I've decided to go the electric cut off route with my car this time around. It allows me to put a switch on the dash as well that can kill the car without adding in another cable...and I already have the switch......just makes it easier and the cable setup I had before was failing. Cable was starting to get stiff....never had an issue with manual one unless I forgot to turn it on when I strapped in the car....this solves that problem...

I ran one on my Front Engine Dragster with 16 volt batteries and alternator with out a problem for several years. Now on my newer Altered I have gone back to 12 volt system.

"Dunning-Kruger Effect"
-a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.

Thanks guy's.

I don't worry about the draw when on other than when I forget to turn the disconnect off when parked between races..lol At the track if I'm in the pits the charger is hooked up.

So I'm thinking the majority use them in the co ckpit as an emergency shutoff and if you forget to turn the main disconnect on you still have to get out of the car to turn it on.
Not sure I like that as I have a tendency to forget. Only happens on the first pass as like I said it doesn't get shut off after that..
Decisions, decisions... Big Grin

mine is a solenoid with switch on back for emergency and one inside for me,i leave the outside one one and use the inside one anytime i stop.solenoids can fail, and so can disconnect switches.i think there are modern devices out there that will work well, and no need to stay in the past.solid state devices will likely use less or no amps to work.dave i put an off delay timer on mine to shut off after a preset time lol

That’s how I do it also. I never charge at the track so I keep mine turned off between rounds.

I have used the 200-amp Cole Hersee on the last three cars and the new one will get one as well.
There is minimal power at the On-OFF switches on the rear of the car or on the dash next to driver. I use 18 guage wire and a very basic pull-on/push-off switch in both places.
I turn the driver switch off (usually) when I charge the battery or if it will be a couple hours until the next run. I don't think I have turned the rear switch off in two years on the S10. I left the battery on by error for about 4 days. When I noticed it, the solenoid was barely warm and battery was still at 12.65 volts.

Mine powers up the dial board, O2 meter and some led lights I made up for oil pressure warning when my main power switch is on so it kills my battery if I leave it on for days. Ask me how I know that? Didn't think of that
