Engine angle?

I have been running this S10 for 1000 rounds and it has been awesome. Took the 406 out to have it looked over (only because I hit the magic 1000 runs) and the mild 434 was a monster.
The engine sits at about 5-degrees down in the rear. I think because the trans was hitting the floor.
I put a motorplate in at that angle and it could be lowered about 3/8", worth the change or not?
Just seems it would help the two driveshaft angle I have??
Thanks, I figured out of the 300 S10s being bracket races in the 6.00-6.40 range, gotta be a common answer, right ;-)

Jok, with the three S10 I have built, the engine is mounted as far back as possible with the distributor almost touching the firewall. I use a front and mid-engine plate, as well as a custom tubular trans crossmember. Also, the engine is offset 1 1/2" toward the driver's side. The trans case is very close to the floor. On the driver's side, I have drilled holes in the transmission tunnel to access two of the transmission bolts from the inside. The oil pan is a Moroso kick-out style, which is 1/4" off the crossmember.

The engine is 2.5 degrees down angle. The driveshaft is basically a straight line to the pinion. Like my Granny would say, it takes a lot of pondering and figgering and custom work to achieve this. Also, custom 9" housing with pinion offset to match the engine offset.

Larry, excuse my ignorance but why offset to the heavy side?

Thanks Larry,
We have it back about as far as can go without chopping stuff up. I think the motor plate in front can come down 3/8" to 1/2" just by pulling the bolts out and drill some new holes.
I think I can get it to about that 2.5 degree angle. It just looked like I had angle from trans to rear end that was too much and that causes more angle at the yoke. Got the winter to think it over, appreciate the input.

Curtis, it is my bad. The offset is to the passenger side. I find it odd that I can check notes several times before sending, yet still make a mistake. I am trying to come up with a believable excuse but am at a loss. One possibility is my coffee has not in full effect Smile

I'm in the process of installing a front and rear motor plate in my 94 C1500 truck to align the motor to the rear end. GM install the engine 2.25" to the passengerside but the axel pinion is only 1/2" to the passengerside. I would get a pretty good vibration whenever I went to a 1/4 mile track. did feel in the 1/8 mile.

I will also be moving the motor back about 4" or so and shooting for a crank centerline that will give me around a 2 degree drop down in the back toward the rear end.

Make sure your water pump is on whenever you check your coolant level.

I am your age and do the same thing. I think one is not really looking at and analyzing the words, but rather regurgitating what is in one's mine from previous thought. I could be wrong. Just yesterday I barely caught myself using "die" instead of the intended "dye". Nice little brain **** that would have been.

Touche! LOL. Better to remain silent and let them assume you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and leave no doubt.

If "She's" not available try Webster.

Me, sitting here laughing to myself, because all this stuff happens to me, more often than I care to admit. A few of us are "seniors", so we can use that as an excuse, ha.

Jim, I would be more surprised by the number on here that aren't. Which is a sad statement.

There will always be limitation due to floor, exhaust etc but optimum would be to have the transmission tailshaft pointing at the diff yoke.

Wish I could do that in my car but the headers are already at the underside of the floor and steering linkage prevents me from dropping the front of the engine any more. The simplest solution for me would be to raise the rear ride height to lift the body higher than the diff but I don't want that jacked up look.
