Any of you run extra long collector extensions for methanol fumes? I know it's very early in my methanol experience and could possibly get use to the fumes. But ![]()

I had really bad fumes in my PST with the collectors under the floor. welded on some 45* turn downs and problem solved. it also made it a little quieter in the cab

I would put turnouts and run the exhaust out the side if you can.

On my 67 Camaro I run the 3.5" bullet type mufflers and ran pipes back near rear axle with turnouts. Also went in with aluminum duct type tape and covered every hole in floor pans. Had no problem after that. I was always fastest car in my class and felt it was a little of an advantage to be quiet. And my car looked dark at night so I felt it was harder for them to see and hear me coming up on them. But the longer pipes and turnouts get a lot of the fumes away from you. And as was discussed in your other thread most people run way too fat a idle and low RPM which makes fumes worse. https://postimg.cc/gallery/np3zpruo/ "Dunning-Kruger Effect" -a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. You will NEVER get used to Methanol fumes.

The reason I installed extended 45* turn downs (the Dynatech mufflers were already there) was to keep the floor from heating up excessively. It was so hot after a run you couldn’t touch the floor with bare hands. I also trimmed the tips back to keep from directing the exhaust to the ground as this would cause much dust in gravel/ dried grass areas. If when doing smokey burnouts you have any smoke in the car, this is also an indication where your exhaust problem comes from. I have no smoke or smell of exhaust in my car from my car.

Alky fumes can be rough, sealing up the car is the only way to keep them out. I usually don't get fumes in the car until the shutdown area, seems to be worse then.

Don't try and "tough it out" with methanol exhaust vapors, you can't, the fumes don't play. Put turn outs on the pipes and get them as close to out from under the car as you can without creating too much headache. Sometimes just adding a 45 angled out towards the side of the car is enough, sometimes you must have turn out all the way to the pinch weld on the bottom of the rocker panel.

I agree with the above statements. You do not want to be staging with your eyes watering and burning and trying to breathe. Plus you do not want a Dain Bramage. Lol. Fix the exhaust, seal up the car and concentrate on cutting a light and going rounds. https://postimg.cc/gallery/np3zpruo/ "Dunning-Kruger Effect" -a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability.
