RacePak Improvements Adding Mile Per Hour Field to RacePak.

Here is a video I made in order to show the steps required to add a Miles Per Hour field in your Racepak data logger software.

Once completed you will be able to see your Mile Per Hour at any point on the track.

I copied and pasted your script in and keep getting a syntax error in the calculation. I would like to get it to work, but no success yet.

Like I said BELOW the video, if your copy and paste brings the single quotes around the DS RPM (') over as some curly single quote, it will cause issues. YOU May have to retype the single quotes around DS RPM in both sections of the formula if that is the case.

It is very easy to correct but impossible to know what other weird characters people bring over during the copy and paste.

Yes, I got it to work. The error was caused by apostrophes that were coming in at a VERY slight angle. It was subtle enough that I couldn’t even notice it while visually inspecting the text for problems. However, when I typed a new apostrophe next to the copied one and zoomed in, the difference became apparent when viewing them side by side.

I would suggest that anyone doing this go ahead manually retype each apostrophe to avoid running into the same issue I did.

That's what I thought it would take to fix it. It is weird that some computers work fine, and others bring the weird single quotes over.

Glad you got it working. Pretty neat to see the MPH at any point on the track. Especially fun to show someone who doesn't race how quickly we go from zero to 60, or zero to 100.

How are you accounting for tire growth?

Its a math channel - you will have to 'fudge' the math to get it account for tire growth by either adjusting the tire size circumference or adjusting the equation like in the video - you can also calculate MPH using G-meter values.

As Rodney Pryor said the formula is adjustable for people who only run 1/8th mile and different adjustments for those that only run 1/4 mile.

I do have a very advanced formula that integrates tire growth and it is about one tenth of a mile per hour better. The formula I gave everyone has the fudge factor at the end of the formula where you can adjust for high growth tires. I shortened the formula for ease of use, and added a simple factor at the end you can adjust.

I have not found it to need much adjustments, but some racers may need to follow the directions in the video to make the formula work better for their combination.

I took it a step ****her a few years back and overlaid gauges on a video: https://youtu.be/yrZv7ezMVKI?si=DZ4kyoi1rckyHFEd

Note that gauges are frozen until a couple seconds before launch because that’s how the logger is set up.

I used 5% for tire growth ans the car was accelerating and it was pretty close but definitely depends on the tire.

If you're going for absolute accuracy, remember that your actual MPH at the finish line is not the MPH printed on your ticket. The ticket shows your average MPH over the final 66 feet.

Granted, the car isn't accelerating very much by that point.
