This weekend had good weekend of racing - kinda. Went to 5k weekend at PGH - new track management and wow what a better program being run there. Made it to the semis Friday to loose. Saturday got to 1/4s and broke a TD shaft rocker. New GM there at track brought me new ones to help out next day and got me back in action. Car was dead on all weekend. Always a big thanks to Ripper here over the years helping me get the right equipment on car. Unfortunately in round 3 I broke something in the rear of the car. Got bad vibration and jacking up car it you can turn the rear wheels about 1/4 turn and then it get super tight and then it will release to be free again - then repeat. Normally the rear tires are pretty free and easy to rotate. Got car home and was hoping it was ujoint. Pulled driveshaft and still does it. wheels move back and forth a smidge - when it gets tight so dont think its the brakes. And I never get that lucky. My guess is I broke pinion teeth maybe? Tear into it tonight after work and see. Any guesses Configuration: 3350#, 582 C.I., 60 - 1.24 1/8 - 5.53@ 126MPH 1/4 - 8.73@ 159MPH 3700#+210lb driver, FULL interior, through mufflers, 10.5 tire. 60'-1.333 (IN 4000ft DA! I broke a pinion tooth 2 weeks ago. Locked up real tight and the rear u-joint was the next weak point. Needed to remove the spool to get the car to roll into the trailer. 1/4 turn on the wheels makes sense that it would be the pinion. Ring gear issue would repeat after a full turn, most likely. Pinion related. 9310 Pro gears will lay teeth over a bit before they break off. "Despite the high cost of living, it remains popular." Dave Cook N375

verdict is in. Broke tooth off pinion and chipped good chunk off ring. Likely pinion gear went first. Tight spot was second tooth on pinion was cracked and bent. Recommendations.... Strange Third Aluminum bolt thru third member. Thinking about 10inch ring and pinion....

1100 for gears or 2300 for 9.5 carrier and gearset. Anyone interested in my old third member. It's a strange aluminum not bolt thru. I want something bullet proof for the amount of rounds I race and money races. I can see my old one breaking again at worst time possible or ruining a whole weekend. I travel to every track so have too much invested. For the weight and power of my car think I got lucky getting as much as I did with it.

If you decide to go with a 9.5 gear you will most likely have to take a die grinder and notch the housing to fit the ring gear in it. I did when I switched to a 9.5 with a fab housing. Not a big deal, just an FYI

I have the dimensions from strange. Just need to measure everything and see. Thanks.

9.5 gear quality isn't very good these days... a lot are going back to 9" gears J.R. Strange guys when ordering were ranting about this. They said the US based companies that used to be top notch are NOT the ones you want to buy gears from nowdays. Infact they said I buy the 9inch replacement gears from them in anything but the Richmond (italian based) they will tell me now I will play hell getting them to pattern. I had to go to a 4.29 ratio from 4.56 to get the Richmond gear in 9.5inch. Probably better for me anyways. They did not upcharge me the $400 difference in Richmond vs US based companies because I bought it complete. So the whole thing was only 1000 more complete vs me buying just Richmond 9" -probably less than 1000 because I would have needed installation kit.
