Bruce WilliamsMethanol is a clear liquid chemical that is water soluble and readily biodegradable. Methanol is comprised of four parts hydrogen, one-part oxygen and one-part carbon, and is the simplest member of a group of organic chemicals called alcohols.
Methanol, also known as methyl alcohol among others, is a chemical with the formula CH₃OH. Once you add something to that compound it is no longer "pure" methanol.
Like dave already said. The only difference is the sticker on the barrell. VP has several "grades" of methanol that they have spiced up with some different additives for more power.

Mike RietowTurn the garage lights out and shine a flashlight into a full to brim, fuel cell.
If it isn't crystal clear, it's garbage no matter the sticker.

dragstermikeI agree with the majority here. The only difference I've seen is the sticker on the barrel and the price. No ET/MPH changes or consistency difference. I've ran VP, Sunoco, and I'm currently running finish line alcohol. The biggest difference is the price per gallon/barrel. The only reason I've switched was availability. I currently run Ron's alcohol injection with the primer plus system.

CashflowDon't run the reclaimed stuff. I got bit doing this one time. I had done it for quite awhile and got away with it but one screw up was enough.

Roger McGinnisMethanol is a chemical. If it is ~99.8% pure, there can't be any differences other than the thickness of your wallet.

FootbrakeJimI agree with the majority opinion/consensus. I got stuck last Fall paying 2.5x the price for VP "high-end" (high-end pricing only!) alky at a track that offered no other options. Ran to the thousandth what Sunoco plain-Jane methanol ran. What a Ripoff.

Larry WoodfinRusty,
about the "white stuff" it was explained to me best by Mike Laws, "the white residue is a part of running methanol. It cannot be completely eliminated but it can be controlled."
For several years I have experimented with additives and "so far" the best result/control I have experienced is the product added by the Kilgore Sunoco store {Lonestar Super Gas] [also Inkman Racing] It is an in house product [not retail packaged] that can be requested.
When added to a full drum it will have a very slight red tint.
I service five different racers carbs that run this package and the carbs wash out easily. The "white stuff" is minor and easily cleaned away.

CURTIS REEDMy alcohol has a slight red tint also from the Klotz Uplon I run. Same results you are seeing Larry.

markemarkI use Fuse Fuels Methanol as they are located 4 miles from me. $156 for a barrel last fall. I open the barrel after loading and put a quart of Klotz Uplon in to shake up for the ride home. Rons Toilet with Primer + and never had a fuel problem.

Dave KoehlerIn addition to what Larry said about the white mystery sand the other reason for it is lack of maintenance.
Leave alky in there for a week in a hot trailer and you should expect mystery sand to show up.

TORQINUsed sunoco, VP, and Renegade...cant tell the difference so far...cars never sit more than a couple weeks...no issues so far.
March 30, 2019, 07:58 PM
CURTIS REEDI will be running Renegade as soon as I need more fuel. Couple races and I’ll be out so I will see if I find a difference in industrial and pure racing. Doesn’t actually answer the OP’s question but ties into the conversation.
