The Barry Grant has a bypass regulator built on the pump. I would however use the largest regulator possible at the carb Jeremiah Hall | |||

For any electric pump when going to a 16v system, re-adjust the pump by-pass pressure! For Magnafuel pumps, they also offer a lower pressure by-pass spring for this application! As long as you can reset the by-pass pressure down to 18 to 21 psi your good to go with no other mods. Typically you want about 3 times the pressure that the carb sees. I know of a number of racers running 16v systems with a dead head regulator with no issues. | |||

My new truck I built has a Magnafuel 500 with a dead head regulator on 16 volts. The lowest I could get the pump bypass regulator was 24 psi and was told that was fine. I didnt know they had a different spring available | |||

I'd say 24 is OK too but if you want to try their light spring it's MP-8050-04. | |||

I went to a magnafuel 500 on 16v and had nothing but troubles. Spent a small fortune on regulators and -12 lines at the advice of Aeromotive and MF. Nobody could figure it out. Had a 500 dollar new to market regulator from MF and it still wouldn't regulate properly thru a run. 12v it was fine. Went to belt driven pump this winter. I would avoid 16v with electric pump. | |||

Installed the lighter bypass regulator spring today that Top38 recommended. It had a standard spring that was cut down in it. With the lighter spring at the same setting pressure was still 24lbs, if I backed the regulator off much more then it would start to leak thru the threads. Cut the lighter spring down a few coils and was able to get the pressure down to 21lbs, that was lowest I could get it. I got the new converter installed and will go test next week | |||

Steve, on that pump according to a guy I talked to on the tech line. If the light spring still makes too much pressure, remove the hose and bypass fitting from the pump. The place where the bypass hose attaches, enlarge the hole in the fitting a little. Iirc it’s 3/8 so ream it to 7/16. That will lower the pressure because it allows a greater volume of bypass. | |||
