Has anybody used a Shiftnoid SN7600 solenoid....They claim it's their heavy-duty hardest-hitting solenoid...My solenoid decided to make smoke this weekend in Vegas...My shifter/cable is a little stiff so I'd like a really good one to replace it...

Yeah, I use a solenoid exactly like that. Not certain it is from Shiftnoid or whoever because it has been on my car since before I bought it. That sucker does hit hard.

Keep us in mind. We 100% designed, machined and built these in house MADE in USA. Only billet housing solenoid out there. I'd put it against any solenoid out there. Lol it hits very hard.

I just replaced mine after about 15 years. It hits hard and has never missed. I don't know where the shifnoid is made.

I smoked my Biondo at Topeka. Second time. It stayed engaged after melting the relay harness and the relay....
Not sure if the black 7AL3 RAS failed, but replacing the box as a couple others at topeka said they had to use an external RPM switch after the RAS failed them, also....

Remember- all shift solenoids are a "dead ground" electro magnetic solenoid and not made to be fully engaged for long periods of time without failure.

Scott, are the plunger ends on your solenoids threaded/removable? I like a little larger pad because my shifter lever is very thin and I’m worried the small ends could slide off the side on the shift.

I had a problem on car I bought with Shiftnoid and replaced it with a Biondo and no more problems. Others has similar problems with the Shiftnoid.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.

How long is too long? This was a biondo sol.

For example, in the qtr mile, using the 7AL3 set at 7000, first shift occurs at approx 200 feet, and then at about 800 feet, I am at 7000 again, and the solenoid engages one more time, it should just bump and go back to rest.

This solenoid is only 3 months old.

Why would it stay engaged, burn up the relay and harness? Wired to the RAS output...

You just answered why your Electric Shift Solenoid is failing. First you do a burnout and the RAS activates for x.xx amount of time while over 7000 rpm. Then the RAS activates for the shift to hi gear. Then the RAS activates while in hi gear and at 7000 rpm and higher.

RAS means whenever the RAS chip rpm value is achieved, RAS activates and "remains active" until the rpm drops below the RAS chip rpm value.

I dont think so. The engine is only at 7000 for a moment... Same when it crosses 7000 in high gear. It should activate and be back to rest, no?

Wow have had a Biondo solinoid on the vet for over 10 years just put same setup on new ride.MSD rpm switch triggers relay to ground solinoid seperate on-off switch turns it all on-turn on switch do burnout make run turn off switch never failed-YET-lol

You wrote that the shifter is activated from 800’ to 1320+’. How long in time do you think that is? That's excessive activation to me.It's activated for over 520'.

As long as rpm is less than RAS chip value RAS should not be active. Are you saying RAS remains active when engine is at less than 7000 rpm?
What ampacity fuse do you use that feeds the shift solenoid?

Here’s a programmable shift controller that can activate a shift solenoid for a desired amount of time (Shift Pulse Time) and number of shifts up to four. It automatically resets any time the engine rpm is below 2000 rpm or off.

For a powerglide, the Shift Pulse Time of 0.200 is all that is needed to complete a shift. Many PG shifting that I have reviewed in MSD Grid data acquisition will shift in 0.110 to 0.150 time at most. My th400 that is very slow when compared to a PG for shifting, will shift the 2-3 in 0.200 seconds with electric over air.

For shifting, the RAS function in analog ignition, is better suited to electric over air or the spring loaded low power Electric Solenoid Shifter that Biondo offers imho.

I use this shifting switch from Digital Delay. I sometimes race 6.0 and Footbrake at the same event so it's nice to shift on time for 6.0 to kill some and rpm for Footbrake. The main reason I originally started using it was to stop the solenoid from activating a second time.

If the RAS is active while above the set RPM, then, yes, that is a long time... When I put a 3000 chip in to test, it only activated @ that RPM, and then the solenoid went back to rest.

The issue I experienced both times is the solenoid stayed active all the way to the et shack before I smelled it.

The relay is what came from Biondo, and Im not sure if it is a 30 or 40 amp at this moment.
