Front Struts on a Dragster?
What is the purpose of these cars?

Has anyone ran one? Do they handle differently? Does the chassis work better under power?

Just interesting.

Would think there is a possibility of it helping keep the front wheels in the beams, but won’t speak for certain on it

Actually I am rather surprised there is not more front suspended cars. Especially the shorter ones like the LandShark would benefit from front suspension.

Like everything we do it is a Cost Vs Benefit decision.

I do think once someone wins 3 or 4 Big Money Races or National events with front suspended cars then everyone will want it just like when 4 link rears started showing up.

I think there’s probably more than you think some use struts which you see other builders use like a reverse swing arm with a shock under the body then there was a builder in AZ that I remember was experimenting with the car pivots behind the driver it had a shock right behind seat and I believe engine and trans were on a swing arm of sorts

Yancer did the rear pivot deal. I could see where that is a good idea because it eliminates the driveshaft and the rear end stays solid.
Dave Covey here has one and his car is pretty serious.

Yancer also was working on real front suspension for dragsters not sure how many he did. It is a rather nice looking set up.

We have a front suspended Diamond dragster. Only a couple of races on it so far but it seems to be working great and my son says it drives like a cadillac. It's a 248" dual suspended car of course as well. Weighs 1920 and we have been 4.50's here in Vegas with it with a BBM for power. Been 1.05 60' with a 4.10 gear. So far we are very happy with it.

Yancer built a couple front suspended cars. One even won the Winternationals and was Phil Dions. They both did well in divisional racing as well.

Here is a bad pic of the front suspension

i have a suspended Diamond with the front suspension and dual rear shocks. I can tell you it will be very hard for me to ever go back. The ride is super smooth, it is very calm, 1.00 60 ft and it feels like it is going 1.12. Diamond has the craftsmanship that I would have expected from all the others but I must say it is above the others. I have had 5 other dragster brands and a new one of those thrown in so I know. I have had dual rear shocks and single. This front suspension helps on the track and coming up the return road.

SLICKSTER
Putting front struts on a Dragster is a piece of cake. In my opinion though, narrow track and independent of each other allows more twist of the roll center. The Diamond front allows travel and adjustability without the twist. Diamond Race Cars and Adkins Race Cars have been doing the swing arm front for over 20 years. Rides super but also more important overall tuneability. Smooooooth on the hit as some one stated above.

My father had the idea od a rigid mounted powertrain with the body suspended back in 60's. He did not ever try it.His idea was a pivot in front of engine with engine ,trans and rearend all mounted to lower potion and the body munted to upper section with shocks front and rear. This was a doorcar design needless to say and not dragster but working on same lines.

I am giving strong consideration to doing front of FED like the diamond cars with axle mounted in frame structure that pivots and has shock mounted to control it. Don't care about comfort of ride for whole 1/4 mile but for keeping chassis from bouncing on topend when lifting.

I Hate Dragsters
The diamond front suspension alone makes it nice for driving around the pit area at some tracks. Drove a buddies car with front suspension a couple times, always felt like it was wandering around the entire pass.
