K&R vs. Digital Delay Mega 400

So with all the changes I'm making to the car, one thing I've thought about changing is my delay box. I have an older Mega 400 right now. It works great, have had no problems with it, and it's been a good box. However, there are things that frustrate me about it too. The keypad isn't backlit for night use, which is an issue. Getting to different screens can be a pain, not to mention making any changes at all with gloves on is also a pain. I don't like that I have to retype the entire et in instead of being able to adjust one number at a time. Size..It takes up a lot of space in my dash that I'd like to use for other stuff. Pros are that it's been dead reliable and does everything I ask of it. I don't need to change it, but have considered doing so. Not because it doesn't work but more because I'm taking a different approach to things with the updates and all on the car, and it's just one area I'm thinking about.

So here's the questions for you:

Which do you prefer, K&R or Digital Delay, and why?
If you were going to switch from one to the other, what are your reasons for switching?
What do you like about one delay box over the other?
What don't you like about one delay box over the other?


No, it's not set in stone that I'm going to change. Just something I'm thinking about. Mine works perfectly and there isn't any good reason other than I would want something newer and different. So lets hear your thoughts, and please, keep it to just what I'm asking, and no drama!!! There's enough of that on this board without ruining another thread....

I have installed and used all the major brands. I always come back to the K & R Pro Cube. It is small and very easy to use

I didn’t vote. I’ve used and like both brands. If you need a rpm triggered output from delay box you want DD. If wanting smallest, then K&R. I really liked the Dedenbear CC3 when I had it. I use Elite 95 because that’s all I need,being small, goes in and out quick switching from box to no box door car, and have two of them.

I have ran both and like both, so didn’t vote

I would say it comes down to size. Do you want small and tucked away or something big? I prefer the larger buttons and screen

While both offer amazing customer service, Kevin is often at races I am at and I have seen him go rewrire peoples car during the race who used his product and had a problem…. Now that’s service

On my new build I went digital delay, only because I prefer the larger screen and buttons

I switched to K&R for the Z-force option. I really like the ease of switching your dial with a simple toggle. I also like the toggle to reset the box after I back up (have a delay set after TB release). If you switch box's it will require a slight wiring change. I can't remember the exact difference. I had to switch power with ground or something like that. (sucks getting old)

Both cars have K&R boxes, easy to use, no complaints and Kevin's customer service after the sale is outstanding. Some like K&R's toggle switches better than the competitions flush push panel.

I perfer the way the timers are setup in the k&r OVER the digital delay timers. The K&R timers are on time/off time. The digital delay boxes are, on time/duration

the DD 625 uses the z force as well

DD has a newer box out now, called the Elite Dial Crossover. It's similar to the K&R box in a sense that it's small, has the little switches over buttons and has a slew of features, including a separate relay board for ease of wiring and less wiring behind the dash. Just another option if looking at switching boxes.

K&R is what I have used in all my cars for years, the ease of changing delays,dials, etc is so simple. They are in my opinion the easiest to use. And Kevin's customer service is second to none.

I too prefer Digital Delay and have seen Charlie Hamma help many with any problem they might have at the track or off also answer any questions on his products

Don't think you can go wrong with either company's new products. Obviously electronics get upgraded on a regular basis even though the outside looks the same, keep that in mind.

Both companies are racer owned, both are customers, friends and great people and have great history for customer service.

I have used both. Whatever direction you go you should be fine.

I use Z Force and have K&R in my old car. I put the DD Elite 625 in the new car since they now have a Set and Go similiar to Z Force. The real difference is Z Force is activated and released with same button while Set and Go uses one button to set and another to launch.

I have looked at the new DD box, but dang, they are proud of it!!!! Not really worried about cost, but cust serv is important, and ease of use. I'll admit, definitely looking hard at the K&R, but since I don't have any experience with one, that's why I'm looking for input....Wiring is simple, not a big deal there. I build my own harnesses.

K&R for me. Small, easy to use and change dials, Z Force. Only thing I wish could be changed is when throttle opens when using Pro Stage. I like that DD can be set to come on closer to green.
With injection and blower mine revs instantly so do not need to sit on launch rpm so long.

Yep that would be nice if Kevin could redo the K&R so SLE could be set to whatever time you want it like the DD does.

I don’t see the issue, we use Biondo’s standard SLE

and go to launch rpm at the 2nd bulb on a handicap/bracket tree which means you’re wide open for .5xx. On a pro tree you’re at launch rpm the moment you get on the transbrake button.
