I know I’m setting myself up by sharing, so have your fun.

I’m not a Tesla or EV owner, but as a mechanic, I had wondered who was training mechanics on how to fix these cars. I had know idea how complicated a Tesla was, until I watched this. I’m thankful this guys trade school has developed excellent training. This would be tough to work on without this.
If like me, you like to at least stay current on automotive technology, this is worth watching to the end. I’ll definitely never work on this, but it was interesting to watch and learn.

So a very basic and simple system to produce heat in a vehicle turned into such a complex system, you need to be a rocket scientist to understand all that is happening in a Tesla for heat.

I understand it is completely different technology but c'mon !!!

There is NO way the devices in these cars will last going by my first hand experience with high tech components inside welders and generators.....inverters specifically....

The cost is high...the return on investment is poor, over time....and the components fail.....and are very expensive to replace and there is no good network to repair this stuff....

EV's are a great sounding "idea" but are very limited right now. I see many Tesla's in my area and I'm sure they are great shorter commute vehicles.....for the owners.

I bought and sold Tesla stock twice so far and made $5000 doing it......

But I am not buying any EV anytime soon! LOL

From what I saw, in the video, 70% of these heat exchanger loops was required to cool EV bits, as opposed to added, specific to heat the cabin. Making it modular was very smart. Looking at the Kia discrete systems was not too smart.
I can’t wait to see how EV cars progress over the next decade. They are about 2.5% of the vehicles on the road now and growing.

Anyone involved with a vocational program like this, in your area?

I think most of it is pretty good engineering.

I won't be buying a EV soon, but I also won't be getting a carb'd 454 and granny low 4 speed soon either.

I hate to say it, but it's the future. But if I'm being honest, the hybrid option is honestly the best one, no limits on distance since you have gas, but also fuel savings if you're just a commuter.

X2. Has the built-in battery charger, gas and GO operation with excellent mileage. Cold/ extreme cold weather is no issue.

You think that's bad you should see what the body guys have to deal with in accident repair. My son is Tesla certified as well as Porsche and Rivian for EV's. The stuff required when attempting to work on these things is ridiculous. Not to mention storage of wreck EV's that can be hazardous

WOW had not thought about collision repair on those-lol-was lead bodyman at locol dealer for many years way glad Im out of that circus ya no plans to buy in on an EV just yet

The fire over in England in that parking garage supposedly was started by a diesel vehicle. The way I understand it now is that it was a hybrid and the fire started with the battery pack.

1200 cars and the garage pretty much destroyed. I'll pass on the EV thing for now. Maybe in the future but I'm pretty sure I'll be dead and gone.

I work with some EV side-by-sides. Yes, they are "simpler" in theory. In reality not so much. Manufacturer tech support doesn't even know how to fix some issues, other than throw parts at it (for the time being). Much rather work on ICE which is still our bread & butter, but EV's are starting to show up every once in a while. We're certainly selling a few. And these things are much simpler than Tesla's systems are....

Anyone ever research or watch documentaries on Nikola Tesla? Very smart, but also very, very dumb at the same time...reminding me of the modern day car company in a way.

On my walk the other day I saw a strange thing

A Tesla with the nose bashed in and a right front tire down and the driver was going down the road pretty fast

A couple minutes later a police car with lights flashing and hard on the gas going the same direction

The traffic light was out at the next major intersection and was being directed by a policeman

The Tesla must have hit someone or something and took off.....dude was going to be in big trouble once found....

That fellow has another video where he shows how a minor right front fender bender takes out the AC to the tune of several grand.

My father in law has a mail route in our rural county and switched to hybrid cars (prius) and it has saved him a lot of money.
