Since the Snell ratng is only good for 5yrs, I'm assuming my sa2015 needs replacing.
And an SA2020, not M2020?

Really? Well that's cool.
I wouldn't mind getting a nice new, good smelling helmet anyway. But I see Helmet City is out of business, so I don't know where to source one right now.
Finding a lot of M2020 online but few SA2020. I know a large usually fits fine, but I still like to try them on first.

every 5 years the new snell comes out and the others become 1/2 off, which is how I ended up with the 2015...

Snell dates are good for 12 yrs. If purchasing online, wise to be able to return in event it doesn’t fit properly. M rated are Motorcycle which I use and prefer in a slower door car.

Snell 2015 expires 12/31/26. They are good for 12 years but don't be confused by adding 12 to 2015 thinking it is good through 2027.
This past weekend at the divisional race in Houston tech guys were confiscating helmets with 2010 ratings. They expired on 12/31/2021. They did give them back after the race.

I also use M-rated helmets.

If I used a head and neck restraint, I’d likely switch to SA since they come from the factory with the threaded anchor bosses installed.

In the beginning, probably because they were cheap. I’ve always used the HJC CL series, which is now the i10. Just bought another last week for $140. They are also comfortable for me.

On a couple occasions, I have worn my brother’s Simpson Bandit in the dragster, and the wind leakage through the shield was terrible and it buffeted/tried to lift off my head. I didn’t feel it was safe. The motorcycle helmet is designed to be out in the wind and feels clean and stable.

I can’t say that every SA helmet is going to behave in that way. But the HJC has worked well for me so I’ve stayed with them.

As I have written in several threads prior, the helmet you want is the one that fits your head properly. The shape of your head can determine the helmet line you should be looking at.

Some people, like Me, have long narrow shaped heads. These heads do not fit properly in what I would guess is over 95% of the helmet interiors available today.

The motorcycle helmet brand/ model I’ve worn for 40+ years makes an interior Specifically for my head shape. Not only is it comfortable wearing for extended hours straight, there is no front or side rocking (buffeting) movement in wind, with head forward or turned to the side that you would experience on a motorcycle or possibly an open car at excessive speeds.

My recently purchased Snell M-2020 helmet is a refined improvement over the M-2010 it replaced.

Here’s the M-2005 model of what I wear that took a impact while traveling 120 mph at the left front forehead.

Correct. All of the ARAI Auto Racing helmets are SA rated and only come in Intermediate Oval head shape sizing which is the majority of what users where. The Round Oval and Long Oval interior shapes are only offered it two specific models which are Motorcycle rated.

iirc, SA just means that the lining material is fire resistant.
My open face is SA, because I don't care about my face, but save the m'fn hair, for God's sake!

My glasses were a much better fit with the HJC motorcycle helmet I used to wear. I will probably go back to them on my next helmet.
