I’m ready to purchase a new case for my transmission. I’ve got two choices I’m looking at. First is a transmission specialties one piece case. Second is a Bte two piece case. Price is basically the same. I like the bte two piece because the bell bolts to it’s own flange not the pump bolts. Question is, is there any advantage one way or the other? It’s going in a 2800 pound back half door car with a small block. Brackets and some index racing maybe some super street stuff. Like I said cost is basically same just wondering if there’s any advantage to either way.

Wooley, I like the entire BTE product line. Over the years, BTE has become my go-to company; their team does an excellent job. To specifically address your question, I like the BTE two-piece case and have several in service Larry Woodfin

My thoughts on this is that the one piece case can't be off because of two pieces not fitting correctly. I would expect the 2 piece cases to be machined correctly but I run a large manufacturing facility with many cnc machines and mistakes still happen. Usually parts like the one piece case will be machined in one set up so it theoretically can't be misaligned. Just my thoughts on things based on what I do, not intended to disparage anyone's stuff.

Curtis as a former machinist who now works in manufacturing my thoughts are same as yours. Larry, I’ve never had problems with any bte parts I’ve used. I will try to get one of their gear sets since they are having a sale right now.

Only advantage to bolt on is storage. PG is a heck of alot smaller without the bell housing. Building can be easier if you have a jig to hold the case and not off the bell housing. Crack a bell housing and you can change it, then again i've never seen an aftermarket case crack.

In the 2 piece application, does BOTH pieces have to be SFI certified ? If just the bell housing needs certification (because you have a shield over the main case), then that would be easier to send out for re-cert. But if BOTH need to be certified, then that is an additional cost for shipping or even the cost of 2 certs. I absolutely believe in the aftermarket case. Much better than factory case. All my stuff is Chevy so I would stick with one piece case. Now if I ran a Mopar or something different then would probably go with 2 piece rather than adapters etc. And that is the only advantage to a 2 piece is that by changing bell housing part you can use transmission on different brand motor. https://postimg.cc/gallery/np3zpruo/ "Dunning-Kruger Effect" -a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. I don't see how it would be any different shipping a 2-piece case bolted together than a traditional case. You could probably unbolt the 2-piece and fit it into a smaller box. Tony Leonard

That's true, but with a 2 piece, you would have to pay for certifications on each piece. Tim West "Wild Wild West" Racing mickeythompsontires.com tciauto.com compcams.com www.motorsportsinnovations.com

As Brandon mentioned above, there are always two certs on a case. One for the bellhousing, and one for the main case. Even if they are one contiguous unit. Tony Leonard

The only reason I see anyone needing a 2 piece case is if you are not putting it behind a chevy engine. The other reason would be maybe swaping parts with a buddy that don't run a chevy engine. But who has friends like that. Meziere Tech. Make sure your water pump is on whenever you check your coolant level.
