Another guy throws a fit at the GABR Million

Toad1Another guy throws a fit at the GABR Million
I have to look at it from the non-racer side of the coin. Operated two dragstrips in Iowa for about 15 years and while we never had $3000 entry fee races, here is my take.
1. Yes, once he pre-staged he has "accepted the dial-in" and the race must go forward.
But.....
2. Once the starter "jumped in there" and held the Staged car. This race is "OVER". Back them out, do it again. For $3000 I would expect the Tower to get the dial-ins correct or at least support a re-run if they did not, the error started in the Tower.
3. Those two should have been put back in staging lanes to do it correctly without Tower error. It would be fair, once the Starter waived off the run.
4. NO EXCUSE to intentionally run over the timing equipment, for that little trick, if I was owning that event, he does not race with us again. I get the frustration as he was actually correct, there should have been a re-run once the Starter stopped that pair with Stage bulb on. The other guy also got the shaft as he did not get a full run on a bye for $3000 (or whatever it was) entry fee.

Very well said.

-a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge.
Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.

Go out to your local little league complex, observe the parents and officials.
There's your answer.
Little League, no matter how much they pay.If I were them, I'd give the guy his money back for my incompetency.
That would be the grown up (Big League) thing to do.

HolytownHeard Nasty Nick dropped hard at the finish line against Fletcher. Wins the round, but hits the wall, comes off the wall with the left tires about 3 feet high and somehow saves it.

SlyFox"hits the wall" and "somehow saves it" are mutually exclusive.

sc4087didn't read thru all 5 pages. I just want to know if he did all the cool stuff prior to staging? You know, sliding thru the water with your brakes locked up. Rolling back n forth in the water, hanging his head out the cage then flipping his front wheels side to side blinking the stage beams. If he did all that then running over cones after a stage DQ or red light should now be the next cool thing everybody starts copying. I like it.

That doesn’t mean anything any more. I recently witnessed a 6 sec door car roll through the water and back through it twice. Then roll up about 30 ft out of the water, do a burnout and coast across the starting line, back up, waste about 2 minutes making a sandwich or whatever he was doing, then finally creep forward and pre-stage. He must be watching too much mmtv cause he not only did that, but also laid down an 8 pack too lol. Maybe theres something to all the bs.
The Pull-Out....for when you want to work smarter, not harder!!!

The rolling through the water, then backing up through it is the dumbest thing by far. I realize a slick is not 100% round, but a round object will always hit the same place it did previously, barring not losing contact with the surface.
Not to mention 99% of the cars that do this have 1000+ hp and should be able to spin the tires anywhere.

Mike RietowI think the guy who ran over the foam blocks did what he had to do, for his own self respect.
For a $3000 dollar entry you'd think they wouldn't have mickey mouse entering the dial ins.
As has been said the second mickey mouse mistake was the starter.
Littler than Little League, if they don't take responsibility for their Mickey Mouse mistakes and refund the racers $3000 dollar entry, minus foam blocks and reflectors.
That would be the Big League thing to do since they didn't even have a Big League starter that knew to back em up, once he got himself involved.
