What I find amusing is how many folks who have issues with the safety gear in other people's cars have absolutely no issue with motorcycles running against cars. Reason being: The motorcyclist knows the risks and he has followed all the outlined safety rules.

Really?

What will happen when a motorcycle finally collides with a station wagon going 100mph? It isn't going to matter whether the motorcycle was faster or slower than the station wagon. It isn't going to matter whether the motorcyclist is correctly wearing the latest state-of-the-art safety gear. We already know what the outcome will be. But because there are a set of rules that say it's OK, it's OK. I'm not running against a bike and I don't care what "victory" I might potentially be giving up. Oddly enough, you will not see a match up like that down here in The South, even in the most "outlaw" of little tracks.

You want to race your dragster wearing shorts? Knock yourself out. I'll run against you. I would feel no blame if you collide with me and your arrogance hurts you. However, I have quite a bit of doubt that you'd be hurt as much as a motorcyclist running into me. Take care. Tom Worthington

If it seems that bracket racing has gotten too expensive for you, maybe you are just doing it wrong.

I saw two different drivers put their race jacket on while wearing shorts and jump into their car at a race recently. Why even bother to put the jacket on?

Years ago I went to Farmington for a Thanksgiving race. I didn't need a jacket racing 1/4 mile since I was slow at an Nhra track. Only high 11's.
While at farminton I wore my -5 jacket because it was cold in the morning.
I think it was 5th round and warmer so I didn't put my jacket on, just wearing a t-shirt. After the burnout and ready to pre-stage the starter made a jesture as to where is my jacket. I leaned over to the passenger seat and lifted it up and showed him. He shook his head and waved me forward. Lol. Think I was dialed around 7.60's in the eighth. That round and winning against a dragster dialed 4.42 are the only rounds I really remember from that race.
I think I lost to a black Malibu wagon.

My 2cents and my
chance to use up bandwidth!

Lol!

Cool

Why does it matter??... a “past million” winner has a junior dragster parachute on the back of his car just to be funny and doesn’t even have a parachute on his other car and both are 4 second dragsters

Why does it matter if the guy next to you wears shorts? His legs are not your legs

If you don't care about your own safety, you surely don't give a **** about mine in the other lane.

When you take every precaution and something happens, its a racing incident. When you throw caution to the wind and start overlooking safety (Driver, chassis etc) where does the liability fall now?

Wait until someone gets hurt or hurts someone else, we'll worry about it then...Is the car safe for the speed its going? Who cares right, not my car not my problem...SMH.

One thing I wish tracks would check more often is neutral safety switch. I saw a truck start in gear in the lanes one day and almost hit a guy standing between it and the car in front of it. Big money race or not protect me from the idiot beside me.

Reason for OP was not concern over their safety it was to point out how little they care, how little promoters care and in effect how little either care about what they might do to you in process of being idiot.

Like most I am not overly concerned about how stupid folks action affect them. I am concerned how it effects me,my car and the sport as far as tracks getting closed because noone want to insure them.

Ha ha. Tach still looked good though!

F-ing morons. Too bad no one died. Was the nitrous bottle held on by zip ties or a bungy cord? Could see the bottle and mounts shaking when the monkeys lifted the rear of the car up to move it over.

I highly doubt that any of them are smart enough to work a zip tie.. They might have been able to figure out what side of the duct tape was sticky and use that, 50 / 50. It 100% ruined the video for me as well when i saw the fucer was gonna live. Was hopin when they were pullin the monkey out of the car it was gonna explode and get an entire pack of em, but no....

A junior chute,Now that is just plain stupid.

As far as the shorts, fire in back into the ****pit and the guy jerks the wheel into my lane. Or gets burned and then the family sues the track for not enforcing the rules or shoddy inspections. The whole "it does not apply to me" attitude is crap. Rules are there for a reason.
Start tossing out the flagrant idiots and see the whole thing clean up. But never gonna happen, all about the almighty buck.

There are races that have these “rules” and there are races that do not. We can all choose which ones to attend

It would be curious to know if any of the promoters that rent tracks for races carry liability insurance of their own . Man a half azz lawyer could break the bank on this stuff .....

Well if the "clueless hypocrite b1tch" was wearing his safety gear properly, he might not come into my lane if there was an incident because his ball sack wouldn't be on fire if he wore his SFI pants instead of China made shorts and wouldn't be trying to spit on it through his helmet to try to keep the polyester from melting into his skin.

Or I could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.

Name ONE 2 car wreck that was caused by a driver not wearing all the suggested safety gear.

The driver in the other lane not having fire pants isn't scary. What's scary??? People in the other lane with their seat belts too tight. They can't look around and make a timely decision for the finish line. Due to their lack of vision (caused by the tight belts) they end up slamming on the brakes, causing wrecks. Same thing for neck collars that haven't had the stuffings removed, or head and neck restraints.

I used to be a people person, but people ruined that.
