I know better than to even comment on this topic but I cant help it. What difference does it make what the guy in the other lane is or is not wearing? I wear 90% of my gear . That being said. I don't care at all what anyone does or does not put on . I put much more thought into checking his wheels, brakes, return springs, Thing that could let them hurt someone else.before you start on the "insurance" We had a race track. The insurance company cares much more about kids in restricted areas , Bleacher boards, pit vehicles and so on . than they give a **** what the people on the track in competition are doing . Racing is dangerous. We get it. Race at your own risk.

Troy I mostly agree with you. I personally wear all I am required to and more. I am much more worried about you coming into my lane because you were using something not up to standards. I don't really worry about my fellow racer protecting himself.

Now with that said I would think that most who aren't concerned about themselves getting hurt, I worry, isn't at all concerned about what it takes to keep from hurting me. I also worry about his family suing the track because the track didn't make him protect himself and that will cost me either more money or a place to race.

I think roundy round guys are used to crashing and expect it to happen so the track getting sued is less likely. Just my rambling thoughts.

Curtis

Race at your own risk.FINE. But as Curtis said don't sue track or family sue track because someone gets injured doing stupid stuff. Prime example and one of many I am shure.

TA/FC driver got killed mainly because of well below par axles he borrowed to make race. His widow tried to sue everyone with name on car or have ever given, loaned or sold him a part.

I don't care if you get hurt because of stupidity. I do care if it cost us a bad good track, higher entry to cover higher insurance and not to mention a bad image on drag racing.

As for danger hell that's what makes it cool. If it was safe I would never have had any interest. I have never done safe, but I do make calculated risk. Personal saying those who walk on the line are just chicken shyt to step over. Danger is part of lots of things, but stupidity cause more shyt to happen that does not have to.

You will never hear about the guy who drove the car out of bad situation or drove perfect race with perfect lights and dead on runs on the evening news. But the guy who backed into idiot walking backwards towards a car backing up and getting killed will be headline news. Drag racer kills bystander at track or some crap.

We are living in a litigious world. I don't agree with it...but I understand what it is and what impact it could and does have.

you will notice that most tracks in this part of the country NEVER tech anything yet those in other parts of the country tech you to death. I had my helmet taken apart once at Maple Grove by tech and watched them approve a local with a missing lug bolt on his rear wheel. Ran a national event (with tech) in he South and next week same car was turned down by tech in Ohio. Both these events were many years ago. I take care of he stuff that takes care of me.

Video of Tommy Phillips in St. Louis. So much for safety at NHRA National events. Piss poor track prep.

if the person in the lane next to me wants to try to stand on top of their cage as they push the throttle with a broom stick, all while not wearing any safety equipment then that is just fine by me

I wear my stuff, but I do not care what someone else does and does not wear in terms of safety equipment

I won't say what track but a few years ago I was down south racing. Pulled in and asked where tech was....his answer was...."do you have a drivers lic?...you passed tech"

Backing up from my burnout about the exact same time I stopped, the back of the car made a strange movement of which I did not process as anything,I sat for a second and then i put it in low and staged.
On the return when I went to collect my chute i saw my wing was all bent to ****.
Found out there was a guy waving a dragster into the box from the center of the lane, I clipped his ankles with the wheelie bars and he fell on the wing.
Nobody said jack to me as I staged and made the pass.
I went to see the guy and see if he was ok, and advised him he should stay out of the center, and watch for the car that was on the line.

Ha ha. Tach still looked good though!

F-ing morons. Too bad no one died. Was the nitrous bottle held on by zip ties or a bungy cord? Could see the bottle and mounts shaking when the monkeys lifted the rear of the car up to move it over.

I have said this before and will say it again. One of the most important "Safety" gear you can have is a Diaper or engine pan.

That can catch most of the oil and prevent a wreck from ever happening.

"Dunning-Kruger Effect"
-a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.

I was watching a FB live at 10 cars from Huntsville triple 10Ks the other day. One of the top bracket racers in the country and past million winner was getting in his dragster with helmet and jacket but in short pants. His legs not mine.

I'm with you Troy. If people worried about their own race instead of what every one else is doing, or wearing they might actually win more.

I used to be a people person, but people ruined that.

As long as he is not standing up I don't see a problem with his burnt thighs and drum sticks. I would never do this put I'm out here in the desert where our first hit could be as cool as 114......LOL

Well, east of the Mississippi AND south of the Mason-Dixon Line.
