My dad had an altered that he bracket raced decades ago so I've had a soft spot forever. Just curious why we don't see more altereds in bracket racing? Is it because they're usually hard tail? Hard to get in and out of? Inherently inconsistent somehow? This message has been edited. Last edited by: CSRacing,

I think Altereds are extremely cool. However, you can't enter them in a footbrake event and/or any doorcar event. Dragsters are the same way. However, many folks say that dragsters are the superior open wheeled tool...and they put their money where their mouths are. That is about as deep as I can figure it. Take care. Tom Worthington If it seems that bracket racing has gotten too expensive for you, maybe you are just doing it wrong.

Fast hard tail altereds can be a handful sometimes. And they are somewhat limited in the classes you can race but unlike what Tom posted around here you can race altereds and dragsters in footbrake, but not in index classes like 5.80, 6.00 or slower. Has to be left hand steer. ____________________________ 2017 and 2018 Osage Casinos Tulsa Raceway Park No-Box Champion 2018 Div4 Goodguys Hammer award winner

Curtis is right. I would add that an Altered is just more fun to drive in my opinion. An Altered can be a little harder to set up right but once you get them right they are easy to drive, fun and fast. Also easier to load and does not take up as much space in your shop or trailer. I have footbraked my old altered at 5.0X and it was a blast and competitive. If you are looking for an Altered make sure you get one with a large cage. Make sure it will certify and I would get a four link if possible. My latest altered I built has strut front suspension and four link rear. If you are thinking about getting an Altered, I would they are fun and that is why we do this, Right? Our altereds were fun to race. But my dragster at the same speed was a one handed easy ride from end to end looking over my shoulder. The altered wasn't that easy. Foxtrot Juliet Bravo

Local guy was running altered with four link for few years. He was deadly. No matter where or when you saw the car it was 5.01 to 5.04 dial in and running the number. He won quite a few rounds, but do not think he won a bunch of races. Driver has to do his job too I guess. Thinking about having one if I ever get fed running. They are not allowed in door car or footbrake around here either is only down side. America home of free. Brought to you by 2nd amendment.

As for handful part. You could always go route Boggs brothers did in early 90's a 150" wheel base. America home of free. Brought to you by 2nd amendment.

I had an altered for a number of years. Fun to drive, not so fun to get in and out of, esp bracket racing, and a hardtail 125" altered is classified as the same as a 4 link dragster, so there isn't anything to gain competition wise. I'd buy one (with a large cage) for cheap, but like a dragster, anything with a 19" cage isn't worth much..

I would not buy anything with a small cage, they are very hard to get rid of. If it is too big you can always pour a foam seat to fit tighter but hard to make it bigger. https://postimg.cc/gallery/np3zpruo/ "Dunning-Kruger Effect" -a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. Boy it sure is nice to be skinny lol. If I wanted to pick up a rail for cheap it wouldn't be terribly hard these days. Dear fat people: thank you for not being able to fit in cars you built before you were fat. ------------------------------------ Not Hot Rod, not Super Rod, not Quick Rod, but the one and only NimRod

I think the bottom is going to fall out of race cars and trailers. In fact I think the housing market is going to crash and possibly the whole economy. We are in trouble but if you are looking to buy some nice cars now is the time there are many available. https://postimg.cc/gallery/np3zpruo/ "Dunning-Kruger Effect" -a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. lol kinda true, my last car was a 19". I fit fine but I also realized how many heavy rear ended dudes there are when I went to sell it. I didn't pay much for it, but I also buy my trucks with 4x4, not because I use 4x4 all the time, but because once a truck is 15 years old, the 4x4 ones sell for much more! Same idea with big caged dragsters

Yeah there is no way I'd build a new dragster now.

I think the bottom has to fall out yet when it does it will not be good. You can see things are slowing down and starting to change. One of those signs is race cars listing for sale cheap. They know it may get much harder to sell them soon. Now on the news they said economy is good and yes housing prices are up, Interest is up but people are still buying houses and we are good. I can tell you this. The last year Trump was in office houses were selling like crazy and interest was good. But then gas prices were good, food was good. Life was good. Now I see property sitting for over a year and them lowering prices and those still not selling. Bigger problem could be in a year or so these people that paid 40% more for same house at 8% interest instead of 2.75% interest those people may have a real problem selling those houses. I suspect there will be a lot of bankruptcies and foreclosures. Once again I hope I am wrong but for me I am not spending any money that I can not afford to throw away and not buying a new house at these prices or interest. https://postimg.cc/gallery/np3zpruo/ "Dunning-Kruger Effect" -a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. I have to wonder where some of you live that life sucks that bad. Back to alterds I guess that means center steer and roadsters are a seperate deal as they are left hand steer. Left hand steer are permitted in footbrake/no box where center steer generally aren't.

I fell in love with altereds years ago! On my 2nd one now and I am a little tight in it but I'm tight in almost any car. They are fun to drive but mine isn't real radical. 5.1's 132 and goes pretty straight, not crazy fast! Latch on to the proper set-up and they can be good cars. Walt
