This /\ I think the 16 / 12 volt deal is kind of like a 10 speed bicycle. If you are on flat ground the higher gear will go faster but if you get tired or up hill you do not have the power to get going. I have ran both and the 12 volt system has never let me down in the later rounds and 16 volt has. I also agree with several others here, keep battery on a trickle charger all the time and run an alternator no matter if you run 12 or 16 volt. https://postimg.cc/gallery/np3zpruo/ "Dunning-Kruger Effect" -a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge. Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue. 4X NE2 CHAMPION. 2020 TDRA NE2 Champion

Just an observation that was an advantage with a 16 volt system. My process for starting the engine changed when I converted from a 12 volt system to 16 volts. When I used 2, 12 volt Red Top batteries I would hit the starter first, get the engine spinning as fast as possible then hit the ignition. That changed when I installed the single (as in only 1) XS D1600. I first activate the ignition then crank the engine. It wasn't necessary to spin the engine as fast as possible then engage the ignition, it fires immediately, so in effect I am engaging the starter for a much shorter time period. The single battery also reduced the car weight by 43 pounds. Bob
