Looks like about 5:1 spectator vehicles to race rigs......

I race this track a lot and it looks to me like each spectator brought 2 cars and not very many racers in the pits. Stands about empty. Goob knows

The track came out with this statement today.

"Darlington Dragway Will No Longer Host JJ Da Boss Events in Future Years; Track makes public statement
After the events from this last weekend’s JJ Da Boss event, Darlington Dragway has made a public statement.
The track said “At this point, the topic of discussion is clear, and the official statement is as follows: In regard to the incident at Darlington Dragway on Saturday night, our staff and management fully understand the concern of racers and fans alike. The situation has been addressed, and additional measures will be implemented to ensure that something of this magnitude does not happen again in the future. Darlington Dragway prides itself on running a safe facility for both racers and spectators. With our diverse event schedule, we understand that Darlington brings in individuals from all aspects that share the same common love for drag racing.”
“With that being said, while we wish JJ and his team the best in their future endeavors, Darlington Dragway will no longer host this event in future years. We will continue to address comments and concerns as they arise; however, we ask that you please direct them to Bear Aiken or the Darlington Dragway page. We appreciate the continued support from our dedicated fans and racing family.”

I'm assuming Darlington's response to JJ's actions will put them back in WDRA's good graces?
Don't want any more tracks packing it in for any reason....

I don't think Darlington really cares about the WDRA since the announcement back in August. They just needed to fulfill their contract through the end of this year with the Bracket Finals.

There was rumors they were going back to IHRA anyway so this worked out that WDRA could act like the separation was their idea because of the JJ deal.

Which leads me to wonder exactly what is going on with WDRA? And if IHRA really is making improvements?

From a racer's perspective, the only difference I see is where the where the finals were held. I suspect it has more to do with which body gives a deal that makes the most sense for that track.

There are no rumors of Darlington going back to IHRA. It is a 3 month old fact, as Tim mentioned above:
Darlington goes back to IHRA

Sanctioning body contracts, at least for IHRA and WDRA, are calendar year, January 1 to December 31. Darlington has events weekly through December, so insurance is a big factor. Something happens on the grounds, whether it's on the track, stands, or pits, the facility is liable if they are not insured. I wonder if IHRA is covering them for the remainder of 2023.

WDRA made the right call, in my opinion. I believe Jeff Miles when he says he and his staff had no idea this was going to happen. I'm guessing there was no Darlington starter on the line, because it was JJ's arm drop, and they would have no need for a tree. I applaud Jeff and Darlington for not taking JJ back for future events.

Shame on JJ for pulling this stunt. For him, any publicity is good publicity. He doesn't have a facility, employees, and sponsors to worry about like track owners do. If that guy falls off, every race track gets scrutinized, lawyers get involved, insurance rates go up, price of racing goes up for anyone coming through the gate.

Facts Chuck.
The facebook pro's are calling wdra a bunch of wusses for this. I don't think any of us know the details. But I do wonder if JJ will have a tougher time finding venues to have his to do's at. The dude crashes and he and his wife badly injured because of lack of safety where they were doing this what two years ago. And back to his old stunts. I dunno about that group.

The reason I said "Rumors" was because there were some here that hang on every word to try to blast us.

That deal with JJ gave WDRA a perfect opportunity to turn it around and act like they were the ones who made the decision to make the change. Do not know or really care on what Sanctioning body they use.

I do care about what is going on and why the track made the change? Bracket racing and all other forms of racing is on the decline so do not want any more problems to hurt it. Is it a sign of something bad at WDRA? Is IHRA really making improvements under new ownership this time? They said they are going to and have big plans to improve but we have been told that before.

The thing here is the stunt JJ pulled was stupid and there were consequences. So what if the track had already committed to going IHRA?

I bet behind the scenes the IHRA told the track you better not ever do anything that stupid again.

I was wondering if this trick was as dangerous as going down the track at 150 mph on a motorcycle or a ATV. Don’t know how fast he went but looked like he did a wheelly and done. So which is more dangerous?

If Darlington was going back to IHRA this worked out perfectly for the WDRA to save face.
No doubt JJ will have to promise not to do this again to reassure some tracks.
