Pretty entertaining video but you could activate the transbrake with a clutch pedal and take away the electric shift solenoids, be the same thing. Drivers inputting shifts via shifter.
As far as the lockup torque converters go, it's no different than a clutch car, the driveshaft is 1 to 1 with crankshaft at the stripe.
All that is said pertains to a Super Pro car. The driver every now and than has to improvise through obstacles quite a bit, in order to turn on a win light.

A guy who raced a lot with McAmis, tells me McAmis always made a big deal out of going in second.
We had a guy local like that, I'd burnout barely across starting line, back up so the stage bulb went out and stop 1/4" from stage bulb lit. I'd turn my stage bulb on simultaneous to him turning on the pre-stage bulb, putting him on the clock.
I loved the bump box demo, funny as hell. But the way pro mod is now at least the racing is good. The class used to suck,it was like funny cars in the 80's and 90's rarely ever was there a close race. Usually every pair ended with 1 car making a pass worth watching while the other car was blowing the tires off or blowing the engine up. I think parity in pro mod is pretty good right now, making them shift might be more exciting but will probably kill the close racing for a while. Jmo

Well, he is complaining about all the electronics and driver assist in Pro Mod he should look at Super Comp!

Anytime recent, anyone who does a little stunt driving, using up the lane in order to turn on a win light, the crybaby's come out of the woodwork in protest!!
Every now and then you gotta turn the steering wheel two or three times to get her done.

Just saw Ricky Smith is going to pro charger. The article basically said he thought you couldn't shift a Nitrous car by hand soon enough to make it work.

Yes, it goes into effect with the 2021 season. At least part of the reason (and many of the top PM drivers actually agree) is when the cars get into trouble, the automatic shifters keep working, regardless of what direction the car is going, so the thought is hopefully the cars won't keep trying to go down the track after it bounces off the wall or swaps lanes. Drag Illustrated had a pretty good article on it. Not many of the drivers are particularly bothered by the change (though Rickie Smith did say it will be the death of nitrous cars).

IIRC, Several years ago, PS had automated shifting too. There were a few PS drivers that got outa shape and they couldn’t recover because the car was shifting causing and crashes. NHRA (and IHRA I think)made them go to manual shifting.
You have to put in the effort, to get anything out of it.

That is total BS about the shifters causing crashes. The automatic shifter does not shift unless the RPM is hit. If the drivers lift off the throttle it does not shift.

"Lift"? What is this concept you speak of?

Not necessarily true. If you floor your turbo diesel in the snow and get out of shape the boost keeps the wheel speed for a second. In a 5 second run that’s 15-20% of the run

Ok as a guy who races a turbo RACE CAR, I think I am qualified to respond to this claim that turbos keep making power after lifting the throttle. They don't. They pedal at the finish line JUST LIKE an NA combo. Lift your foot, immediate power removal. Does the boost stay high? Of course. But the throttle is closed which means the boost isn't getting to the intake. Now....if you don't completely lift....sure an open throttle still is making power. Good God the internet is a special place.
