Anyone else find it harder as you age to be super good at the stripe? 1/8 mile racing has been harder for me especially at 4.60’s or faster

I just turned 60 last month and now that the car seems like it will go. More than a couple passes without self destructing I will let you know. LOL

Been a tough year but I wasn’t having any problems last year. Fell 5 points short of the championship and won 5 races I think it was. One of them was a 1/4 mile race.

I'm going on 62 & still doing above average. I win 1-2 races a year & consistently go rounds. I do find myself making more simple mistakes:

A couple weeks ago in a borrowed race car. I needed about .010 quicker reaction times. So, I pull 2 shims out of the Biondo Terminator button & won a couple rounds with going the wrong direction with the shims. Glad I pulled my head out of my butt & added 4 shims to quicken my reactions. I made the semi-finals with another mistake made to keep me out of the finals.

I am 65 and after 10 years in a dragster, 5 of those in a fast TD, switching back to a door car has been challenging to say the least

Fortunately, I never was particularly good "working" the stripe. Therefore, what I lost to age really wasn't very much. Take care. Tom Worthington

If it seems that bracket racing has gotten too expensive for you, maybe you are just doing it wrong.

I started racing in'64 with flag and arm drop, and did some chariot racing, no, not like the Romans, those who know, know LOL. I have never been able to play top end games, so I dial down two and run it all out in the 1/4. for 1/8 mile I go down one and still run it all out. The only time I lift is if the other car cant be found, so I dont break out.

My eyes are not great. Finish line driving is a best guess.

For some reason I’m still got on my lights. Guess I’m gonna have to get my car consistent and dial a bit more honest

I am not as good as I was but I still swing for the fences. It is not just working the finish line it is reaction time to. For me I need seat time to stay on top of my game and this economy has cut into that some. Not testing as much as I used to. I can not handle the heat like I used to and that is not helping matters. For me it is a package deal. When I have the car working right where it will hook up good, go straight, run the number, car will react good then my driving gets better. If I am fighting one issue they all suffer. Right now I am struggling, I have made major changes most every race to get combination right so my driving is not great right now.
Much of my thinking is get car working right, aim small, miss small and you do not need to hold as much. Sure as I get older it seems harder to consistently do.

As for playing finish line games when I have my car dialed and working right I only hold a SMALL amount and keep it simple.

I got back in a door car 2 races ago and last week had a nearly 3 hun edge on the tree and took nearly .05 stripe vs a 15+ mph faster car and broke out by .003

I was never really super good at driving the stripe against faster cars so I can’t blame it on my age but being 76 doesn’t help

I’ll keep trying till I get it right though…lol

I've probably given away more rounds trying to drive the stripe as opposed to dialing more honest. I'm 62. When I win (and I won Sportsman a few weeks ago at SGMP) it's all about having a good day on reaction times.

I do not know what to tell you. There is hundreds of ways to lose a round that I know of. There may be a few I have not even tried yet.

What makes it really special is dialing up .01 before that round. Roll Eyes
