I watched it happen. Small drops of rain throughout the morning. As soon as they launched an immediate down pour. Wrong place wrong time deal. The orange vette hit the right wall very hard after spinning several times. Knocked him out and the throttle was stuck full open and for an eternity and I believe it blew up. Couldn't here a chip so car and motor are toast. Driver is in the hospital. Dardimple's Camaro got hit by the vette in left door but I think fixable. Freak accident not caused by track caused by mother nature. It was first pair of the SG shootout, down for 2 hours. Very sad

Many years ago racing at Texas Motorplex we knew rain was coming all day and were trying to get race in before it got there. Late rounds and I was racing when it hit and it hit hard right at finish line. No windshield wipers, 130 MPH and it was slick! Also at Motorplex the track is lit up pretty good but shut down area is darker so went from good visibility and traction to no traction, limited visibility and dark. That car was a handful to get stopped and I used most all of the track to do it. Luckily Texas Motorplex has a long shut down area. Little skinnies on front and big slicks in back hydroplaning is interesting. That was probably 1995 or so and out of the thousands of passes I have made it is one I will not forget.

We make the choice to go down the track or not every time we pull to the line. Only a few times in all these years have I not gone down the track. Probably should have been a few more, just wasn't using my head. The race is not worth crashing or getting killed. Hopefully everyone in this deal ends up okay. It sucks!

They chose to take the light and go down the track because there was no rain until there was a huge dump at the 330. I would have took the light and raced and I'm a cautious racer. Weirdest thing I've seen in drag racing. Seeing both cars get loose at exactly the same was really really wierd. Hope I never see anything like that again.

The one night at RT 66 Qualifying. Sun went down and the dew coming in from the open fields and settling on the track. Several wrecks at about the 800 900. Mine started coming around but caught it. Enough of this..Once the dew starts rolling in, there is no prep on this earth that will keep you down Broadway.
