What's the biggest reason for the low turnout? I predict Democrats will ban drag racing in California in the not too distant future,so why not race while you still can?

78% quoted filled for sportsman classes maybe because it is California and sucks simply or because of the death of tracks there .....

I'm here only because it's a 45 minute drive from home. Didn't go to Phoenix because it's an 800 mile round trip. At $5.00 a gallon for diesel and 5 1/2 mpg it's to darn expensive. I was at the Phoenix divisional a month ago because it was a double. Also it's $2,000 to win at D7 divisionals. Lots of out of state racers refuse to come to California for various reasons. Larry When everything is coming your way, your probably in the wrong lane.

I am thinking maybe just too many races in a short amount of time. First was the Phoenix D7 Double, then the Phoenix National, then Pomona and in 2 weeks Vegas National, then the following week the Vegas D7 divisional, that's a lot of time off of work and money. The majority of sportsman racers have jobs or small businesses they need to be at.

I don't think the schedule helps at all myself. It is a lot of time off for anyone who works for a living for sure and all in by mid April. But since we only have three divisional tracks available we have limited time to race usually. As soon the weather will be way to hot to get anyone out to the track. We basically don't race during the day here in June-August as its just to hot. Even at night its a challenge to race at those three facilities as track temps can still be over 150 late into the night. Even October can be way to hot for alot of folks. Bakersfield divisional is a good example. It can be anywhere from 90-105+ for those races. So we get front loaded for the most part. Vegas does have the last divisional and second National in October/November but that's kinda always been the case out here. We get loaded with races early then sit til years end or travel 11+ hours to go out of division in the hot months. "I am not ashamed to confess I am ignorant of what I do not know." Years ago we ran the (October) Vegas Divisional race at night, it started around 5:00 and ran into the early morning hours. I remember running rounds at 4:00 in the morning when the view of the Strip was spectacular. We spent the days swimming in the motel pool, went to diner then drove back to the track. Of course hat was when a motel room was less than $70 a day, now it's a little more expensive. I can't imagine running a race there in July or August, they would probably have dozens of heat stroke victims Bob
