100* and butt load humidity here today. Wondering how many fighting heat and racing and how many sitting in air conditioned garage working on stuff?

Wating it out till temps drop 10 or more
Screw this and sitting in garage working on car

 

Dew point 79 degrees , Heat index 114 a couple of days ago. It's been in the 70's for over a week.

I've passed on racing lately. Unheard of just a couple of years ago.

Supposed to break Thursday or so....highs in the 70's for the weekend.

So you come on here to brag about 70's. Hell we will not be below 85* for most of the next month. If we do it will be one or at best two days and one of those will be 84. Figure end of August before I even attempt to run unless they have a hurricane and that most always breaks a heat wave. I am good with waiting at that rate.

It's 97 right now, working in a closed shop with no fans. I was all set to install 8 pistons when I discovered that the piston skirts all rub on the aftermarket crank's counterweights.
I'm gonna take a break until the sun goes down.......then put a little clearance on the pistons.

Ain't that the truth. Gone are the old days sourcing parts out of the junkyard when most everything fit since it was under GM's umbrella. Now days with each mfg. "improvement" damn near nothing fits without some degree of massaging.

Speaking of Junk Yards:

When I first started racing (1956) everything came out of a junk yard. My first "Race" engine was a junk yard '49 303 Olds. It went into a '52 Ford with a Caddy LaSalle three speed transmission. I broke so many differentials and axles that I got a job working at the yard, they paid me in replacement parts.

The NHRA D4 bracket finals is moving back to the TX Motorplex, but because of the late venue change it is running August 14th-17th due to track scheduling, its the hottest part of the year in Texas. 4 days of 100* temps is going to be really hard on both the racers and track workers

I’m not complaining. Coldest summer in years. Records set in Sonoma.

113* today here in Chandler AZ. Humidity was not too bad.
I had to replace an outside faucet on the rental house. Tennent would not let me in the back yard until after noon.
Entire job took maybe 20 minutes. Took the rest of the day to recover.

As far as working on race car stuff. I have a large wall mount AC unit in the garage. If I turn it on first thing in the AM I can keep the garage in the mid 80s.
When working in the race trailer I run the generator and the two AC units. Pretty hard to cool the trailer down.

The humidity has been pretty oppressive this summer. Sucks to sit around in completely sweat soaked clothes. However, I do what I have to do to make it to the points races. Ice packs, straw hat, shady spot to sit, lots of hydration, etc., etc.

Too cold seems to prevent more races than too hot, so I'll cope with too hot. You wanna hear me b*tch about weather? Just wait til winter time, even in North Carolina. Take care. Tom Worthington

I have not been racing much this year not because of the heat but because of other issues. Will say this as we get older it sure is harder to handle the heat.

This humidity in WI. & UP of MI. SUCKS! I'll take the dry heat of NV. right now, but we have another 4 weeks of our road trip.

You cuss the cold I got cussing the hot covered. I can wear firesuit all day in cold but too old and too fat to run around naked and still sweating.LOL

Speaking of which I am in market for fire jacket either 5 or 10 used large or extra large I am guessing. This sfi20 sucks at80 and will not say 90 plus.

Dew points .
Dew point 81 degrees yesterday afternoon, first time I can recall that in my 68 years.

Temperature I can handle, but soggy air is hard to handle.

Supposed to be down in low 80's here this weekend and plan on using every minute of it. Already bought some materials and supply's for long list of project for trailer and car. Probably few all nighters in shop.

Really not hotter than seemingly every other summer but at 66 it bothers me more. I can lose 5 lbs in a day/night at track.

Hell wife says I am averaging 4 shirts a day for last two weeks. I can not stand wearing a sweat soaked shirt. Working on My panels truck outside of shop doing 30 to 60 minutes outside and I am soaked head to toe. damn shame can not sweat diabetes out I would be cured twice.LOL

Take care and drink lots of water guys. If crazy enough to jump in firesuit in this heat. You qualify as bada$$ or just bat**** crazy.
