I've noticed a few of my local tracks no longer play the music from the "broadcasted" radio station. is this some new "copyright" issue?

Not sure if that is the case, but sure wish they would constantly broadcast "something" so that I could zero in with my radio. Smile Take care. Tom Worthington

If it seems that bracket racing has gotten too expensive for you, maybe you are just doing it wrong.

I can't remember the name of the company BMI, ASCAP but for any company that plays music must pay a licensing fee yearly. Same as radio stations have to pay a middle man company for the rights to play songs. They send nasty letters telling you you're in violation of broadcasting rights or some legal wording. They want some crazy amount like 2 to 5K a year to be in compliance. They threaten legal action unless you pay or stop. Thats why alot of racetracks don't broadcast music anymore. Its not just racetracks they go after alot of sporting event venues and even restaurants.

Our track broadcasts a local radio station when they aren't speaking.

And technically, according to existing copyright law, that is illegal, unless the track has paid the proper licensing fees.

At what point does copyright kick in or how do you find out what all is illegal? If I have a construction company and play a radio station over a boom box at a job site is it the same?

I think it comes down to if it falls under public entertainment venue. Meaning if you charge a fee to get in then you can't openly broadcast music without paying a license fee. Legal lawyers crap

If your track is broadcasting using a FM or AM station they need a license and would violating the law if they played music or a radio station they didn't pay for the right too.

If you are booming a radio station at a job site, home or the track you do not need any license or permission.

The other issue that is happening now is everyone has a You Tube channel. Theywill get copy right strike if they are filming at the track and broadcast any music in the back ground. It might be the tracks are accommodating the You Tubers, so they will film and promote the track.
