Last I saw, they have eight TF and 10-12 FCs entered....all second tier, low buck teams that barely/rarely qualify (or even attempt to qualify) for NHRA shows.

(i read somewhere that there were only 78 cars total, across all classes)

For most fans those guys will put on a plenty good show. They will start getting down the track more because they aren't having to rotate the world to make the NHRA show. From what I saw 3.80s in TF and 4.0s in FC is pretty good.

I'm not sure I could tell a 3.85 from a 3.70 anyway.

Man to be fair, that car was engulfed in seconds and the intensity of that fire was immediately making it difficult to approach the car. I’m not sure what was going on with the driver but it didn’t seem as though he was able to get himself out. Pretty horrific

Lets talk about the fire for a minute. I can not say for sure and I could be wrong but it looked like a nitrous explosion. That happens but then car went up in flames like fuel pump was pumping gas on the fire. So the question that came to my mind was why did not master power cut off switch kill fuel pump? Or did they not even hit master power cutoff? IF and assuming if the master power switch did not kill motor and fuel pump then that fire is not going out until the fuel is out and you could have had fire truck sitting right there and it would not have helped much. There were several fire extinguishers there quickly but those do not do much good with raw fuel spraying. You already had spark and the fuel was pumping. Looked like 5 people with fire extinguishers and fire truck there in seconds. With out knowing everything before I blame track crew I would be looking at the master power cutoff switch to verify if it was working or not.

My opinion and I hope the guy is going to be okay, as it was ugly.

I am just speculating, the engine apparently died on the burn out. When he went to restart it, it backfired thru the manifold ripping both the fuel and nitrous lines off then it exploded. This tells me he had the bottle turned on during the burnout which I always thought was a no no. With the solenoids stuck open for whatever reason Both gas and NOS sprayed together feeding the intense flames causing fuel tank to explode. And yes I didnt see anyone turn the power off at the back of the car, he may have had a kill switch in the drivers area but either way by then it was too late.
Again this is all speculation on my part

That is what appears to have happened, my question is the master power switch should kill motor and electric fuel pump and it appeared the fuel pump kept pumping fuel and feeding fire.

Was the master power switch not wired properly to kill all power or was it never hit?

This is one of those things I want to know to learn from it and possibly prevent it in future. Looked like normal Nitrous backfire but from there it escalated quickly.

Was there a post removed? If not I don't see anything making it sound like the driver's fault. Just time facts is basically all he stated if that's the post you are referring to.

English, Are you talking about my post, or someone else's? If mine quote exactly what you think I said that would make you think I blame Blaney for anything. I would sure like to know.

Dave

I can't figure out where you are coming from thinking I said or should have said something, Mike.
I think you are confusing me with something someone else has said..

Besides having the nitrous turned on during the burnout which is a huge no no, its has been reported that his fire bottles still had the pins in them.
Perfect example on why the past couple of years the NHRA has fined both PM and TS racers $2500 for having the pins in their fire bottles at the end of the run.
Same explosion could of happened when the car launched, just pointing out a couple mistakes by the driver, regardless the safety crew response was terrible and obviously unprepared

I saw that someone had shared a video of the wife confronting the IHRA owner. I didn't watch it so I can only say that is what the post said about who and what.
