Anyone have experience with insulating their trailer? I put A/C in mine, which works very good, but the roof skin gets super hot with the sun on it. Pretty much an el cheapo entry level 24 footer. Wood paneling on walls and one pop up vent in roof, which needs replacing also. Everything inside gets cool to the touch, except the roof. There is a 3' wide thin wood strip front to back that stays cool. Before I put google to use, I figure I'd ask here what folks have done with good results. Thanks.

I had to completely remodel inside of my trailer so I put some fur outs and added sheet foam insulation then put interior walls in. If I remember right I have 2 inches in the walls, 3" in the roof and about 5 inches under the floor around the frame. Works great. In my living quarters a 12,000 BTU Ac will freeze you out in no time even in Texas heat.

Also I sealed up all cracks with RTV or caulk before I insulated it and in the storage / pump area that is closed off I insulated it to.

I also put some of the silicone roof sealant over the top of the roof, I think it may reflect a little light helping it stay cool and seals the roof from leaks better but does little if any as far as insulation goes.

I do not have much money in the remodeling of it. Turned out pretty nice and does everything I need. I can sleep in comfort, has a small shower with hot water, refrigerator and can have a few people in there to cool off.

I bought my trailer fully insulated. The only thing I want to do & I've been procrastinating on doing it. Is using a white reflective sealer on the roof & my understanding is it should be 100% silicone. Below is what I'll use & according to some it's the best, but it's expensive.

William, I glued styrofoam board in between the roof runners that was the same thickness at the tubing then covered it with white RFP. Got it all at Lowe's. It made a huge difference and was pretty easy to do.

My trailer was a basket case so I had the interior stripped. I used foam boards and did the walls and ceiling.
I did paint the roof with white elastomeric roof coating, I think it was Koolseal but Henry's and others make it also. I should have used the silicon version which is Tropicool. The plain elastomeric coating attracts and holds the dirt badly. I'm surrounded by trees and even not parked directly under one the roof is covered and it is porous so cleaning it is tough.

Thanks for the input y'all. I have a pretty good idea on what direction I'll go with it now. Hadn't thought about the exterior roof covering, and that will be addressed also. Outta sight, outta mind I suppose? May be a few weeks before I jump on it, but I'll try to remember to post results here. Thanks again.

Thank you, I did not build it to be a show trailer, I built it for comfort from Texas heat and it has worked well. Can live in it comfortably for a few days if needed. I did use the Henrys Tropicool silicone stuff and I do not know how much if any it helps for cooling I did it to seal any small potential leaks. My base trailer was old and needed some love so I cleaned the roof really well and applied the sealant up there to seal it from weather.

Did not read all replys so may repeat, White painted rood helps good amount. I have 1" styrofoam in walls and roof with 1/2" osb and white aluminum.

34' with oine roof top. Not meat hanging like would like but comfortable even when using for shop and working on car;

11:30am cst today and it’s 88deg outside with about 1000% humidity and the sun beating down but it’s 75 right now in my trailer.
