One of our local tracks this season went to an App for your android type phone-no slips just your run data on your phone. Now they did put in a kiosk at the front gate that will print your slip but what a pain to go up to the gate every pass. Whats everyones opinion on this deal

That should cause plenty of confusion for older racers especially. Why change something that works? I personally don't like it and my friend don't even have a cell phone, golf cart, or scooter. Talk about confusion.

I miss the ability to take notes on the slip for reference later.

It's GREAT for scouting opponents quickly and easily.

Overall, it's not a big deal either way for me.

Fern it gets rid of an employee, printer and paper is why the change over.

I'm okay with the app other than you lose the info after a certain amount of time. It's also not searchable by classes only car numbers.

I don't like that everyone can see every incremental so there are no secrets. LOL

Gateway has been doing it for many years now. And tho it sucks that everybody can see everything, atleast everyone has the same opportunity to look at everyones. I just screen shot the time slip, then i have it forever.

So what do you do if just do not have a phone capable of doing all of that? While my phone does I hate doing anything much more than hello, yes or no, and thanks or kiss my as$. I can do a lot of the other crap but only because have to.

I would probably not go to that rack if any other option and would let the owner know why. JUST me I guess.

You run a data recorder on your car?

I don’t care either way (paper or app) just as long as I can access the data. I screen shot it when on the app. I use a paper logbook for data recording. I think app only will become the normal at tracks in the future and sure it reduces operating expenses.

As someone mentioned earlier,Gateway has been doing this for awhile.
Very easy to take a screen shot and transfer the data to a log book or scrap piece of paper.
The app always works great for me and saves labor and paper for the track.
I couldn't believe some of the people that said they wouldn't return to the Divisional race next year because they didn't have printed time slips.
If you can't get through a minor inconvenience like that, then the sport of drag racing is probably not for you.

I don’t like the idea. When I’m at the track I want gto disconnect from the rest of the world for a while. I usually lock my phone in the truck. I will go check it from time to time to see if my wife tries to reach me if she’s not there but that’s it. I don’t want to have to pull out my phone to see my et slip. Ranks right up there with self checkout.

Well this is just another piece of technology. Don’t be an old guy telling the app to get off your lawn. Hahahaha

Guess going to be old guy/ Hate using the damn phone for anything except making phone calls. Txsting season is in until jan. 2nd. Good for sending silent messages to those I hunt with. other than that I do not ext much at except when makes more convenient for others. I can talk a conversation out in half the time and not wait for answers to questions.

Amazes me how attached some are to a phone. half cannot function w/o it/ Me I am happier when it as somewhere else or the battery is dead. Mine is cracked all to pieces and my wife bugging the crap out of me to get new one. Why its not dead yet/

It's the way of the future.
I personally love it and HATE paper slips. I just leave my phone in the trailer, when I get back I take a screen shot, then add any of my notes, then when I'm ready (usually at the end of the weekend) I send it to a folder for that track on my race computer with my data logging and MSD settings, etc.

Everything is at my finger tips in one place, easy to get to and easily searchable.
I do the same thing with paper slips but it saves me from taking a picture of the paper one which I just throw out anyway and NO stupid Log books.
Wish ALL tracks would do it.

Oh, and by the way, most any phone can do this now. My phone is an older Android and works fine and was FREE because my wife bought a state of the art one several years ago.

As long as I can access my run information/data it's fine with me. It's one less delay on the way back to my trailer after a run and three less expenses for the track, the printer, the time slip and the employee handing you the time slip (but mostly the last expense). Add up all that over a year of racing and it's more than just a few dollars.

Not a problem.

I remember when some tracks didn't give out time slips years ago, they just posted run sheets at the bottom of the tower.

I'm with you. Doesn't matter to me. I'm gonna write all the info down in my logbook anyway so the fact that it disappears doesn't bother me. I don't like that everybody else can see my business but I can see theirs too so I guess that's a wash.
