What is going on in the nitro ranks? In Michigan and now in Rockingham everyone has dramatically improved their reaction times. I believe Accutime was running their system in Michigan, and it appeared that's when things changed. Not sure about Rockingham and it's not just a car or two. Anyone have in inside info or I'm I late to the party?

It was the same system at both tracks. They are used to running on a .370 tree I believe and now they are on a .400 tree

I just woke up and have not had my coffee but if the normally run a .370 tree and these two tracks are .400 wouldn't their reaction time be SLOWER at these two tracks? Regardless at any National event it should be the same I would think. I need to wake up.

Read the article on competition plus its a .400 tree but its called LED offset. When LEDs (not the blue pre stage and stage) but the ambers going down the sides caused a big issue many many years back. So All the timing system companies created a LED offset in the hundredths to compensate for it. LEDs are instant on and Incandescent take 10 MS to power on fully. Hence LEDs are way faster, so a 370 tree means a 3 hundredths offset(delay) think of it as a delay before the green is activated. AT 131 NHRA used the offset settings from a compulink in an accutime and because of the major difference in older vs modern technology its did not slow it down enough and was adjusted slower in Rockingham and RT got alot better. PSM was an entire different issue as NHRA had interviews it a couple crew chiefs and said the grip meter at 131 was off the charts for them and was the same at Rockingham. It was causing the PSM to basically rip the front tires straight up instead of moving forward a few inches causing a few red lights. That was not a tree offset issue it was more weather and track conditions. LED offsets are only used in Pro classes and you don't see it in sportsman or bracket racing.

Would your reaction times be better on a .500 pro tree or a .400 pro tree?

Curtis - A .400 Pro Tree is faster because it turns on the green light in 0.400 seconds, compared to 0.500 seconds for a .500 Pro Tree A "Pro Tree" illuminates all amber bulbs at the same time before switching to green. Because the time between the yellow and the green is shorter on the .400 tree, you have less time to react, making the timing sequence itself faster.

Yes, I agree. I was just trying give Bruce a larger split to think about showing the difference than when I commented on a .370 and .400 tree.

I've raced at .370 Pro Light Events but they allowed you to dive in deep and drop the top bulb. The real race was to be the first guy to (really) shallow stage, the second guy seldom had time to set the car. A few tried to back in but they were red lighted since the last movement had to be forward.

Kind of a tangent question here, but are the Sportsman classes pro tree still a 0.370 or did they switch the Sportsman back to 0.400 ?

Sportsman classes got the .030 back a few years ago.

If you read the article on Comp plus I posted a link to, they had the Accutime tree set to .370 at US 131 race. The Accutime electronics are modern and reacts quicker electronically than the old DOS based Compulink system. Drivers were offered to switch it to a .350 tree mid race but the drivers voted against it.
The race they just had in Rockingham NC was also Accutime, they set it for .350 from the start. Many had great reaction times due to the system being electronically quicker but the Pro redlights stopped
