We've all been there.

.003 on the tree.Dead on 2,but still get the L by .001.

Over the weekend,a guy won a race with 5 red lights and a bye run.

So what was your luckiest win? And we aren't talking about a round win,we are talking about a race win.

I did not get a bye run but I had 5 in a row red light in the other lane. This was back in the 4spd days and the last 4 runs I only had high gear. You race this long and you have probably had every dumb situation you can think of happen to you.

I can't think of any long strings of good fortune resulting in an event win, but in what may be my two biggest wins I survived a double red-light along the way.

One was on a Pro tree, so first was worse. The other was long before TruStart and I honestly can't remember who had the worse red light.

I was driving my buddies pos monza before he cut the body off and built a new chassis. The fumes from the alcohol were so bad, i dried heaved in the turnoff during the test night the day before. Found some 90 degree turnouts and welded them on sitting on the trailer at some point in the middle of the night. Sob was the loudest none zoomie/procharger car i've ever heard. It was painted like a bumble bee and ugly af...pretty sure the car itself scared everyone into being red.

super nice car now thou!

I won a Wally at National Dragster Challenge at my home track in 2009. Had an .010 light at six cars, won the round, but broke 2nd gear somehow in my TH400 on the return road. Started to load up and go home, but then thought I might have the bye next round. Sure enough, had the bye at three cars based on the .010 r/t previous round, made my single shifting 1st to third. My opponent red lighted in the final, I coasted to the stripe for the W. Transmission needed a complete overhaul afterwards.

Won a bottom bulb event with no R/T better than .071, just dead on runs with breakouts and red lights in the other lane.

If it seems that bracket racing has gotten too expensive for you, maybe you are just doing it wrong.

This happened many moons ago in the early 70’s long before the timing systems of today. 22 cars rolled up for first round of what would be now sportsmen, now keep in mind back in the day a breakout was a loss, none of this break out by the least amount wins, I’m in the first pair and I’m good for the win as the other guy broke out. The next 10 pairs were all double breakouts and both cars are headed to the trailer. I was the only one who didn’t breakout and won that with only one race

Back the late 1970,s, i had a 50 olds ,and i was racing Dan Kibler in his 22 sec. corvair i ran in the 12,s or 13,s,well he went green ,i went green, but when i left the starting line my frt. seat brackets broke, and i went strait back and i grabbed the bottom of the steering wheel and pulled myself back up.Meanwhile Dan was so far ahead of me ,figuring he was going to break out, he slammed on his brakes ,and smoked his frt tires,he was DQed,and i won, lol.

I participated in an outlaw index race a few years ago. It was in November or something like that, cold as hell. My car isn't the greatest ever but it usually works pretty good hot or cold. I won a 5 round race, and all I had to do was get down the track. I had 5 consecutive rounds of my opponents not being able to go 6.0. **** was so cash. I was persuaded into splitting tho Frown

I don't know about luckiest but at a National event in Columbus got ready to pull out and the guy in the other lane had somehow locked his doors. Red had me wait a little bit then sent me on. Not sure how he got in it.

Not me but my friend Steve Alford won a $10,000 race at Bristol sitting at the starting line out of gas against Manny Sousa who ran out. Steve did break the beams. The next year same 2 in the final and Mannys crew brought a bunch of gas cans to the starting line. Same result, Steve won.

2002 NHRA Div. 1 Race of Champions

I was .505 dead 4 to his .508 dead 2.

I spun bad in the final and was slow .06 in the 60. I jumped on the nitrous and used the spray on and off through the 1/4 and took .001 stripe. Pure luck my win light came on.

Last Saturday night lost in final round after horseshoe wins in 5 rounds. Only decent light .012 1st round and beat him to mph cone I mixed up mph cone and and he sprayed to breakout. 2nd round chasing sane car, late but raced to actual finish line. He brike out again. 3rd round opponent even later than me. 4th redlight other lane. 5th at 3 cars me late again but he whomped early and around me and broke out bunch. Final he was .006 and took win. Split was great.

The only odd thing was car deadly, also mean't something going away. TC stall really messed up and trans full of metal. Moved 2 step and shift points no change in ET and reaction time in major decline.

Better lucky than good.

First weekend out with a freshly rebuilt car working the kinks out at a 3 day race, 2 10k and a 5k. First race Lose first round to a loose wire in front of the foot box, go out second round to fuel solenoid hanging open on nitrous system, luckily didnt hurt anything. block off the solenoid and get ready for day 2. was also struggling to find the tree all first race.

race #2, found tree in time shots. Win first round approx. 20 pack taking 10 for the win. 2nd round -.069 red, faster car is -.003 red in front of me. 3rd round i'm -.048 red, guy is -.011 red in front of me. 4th round .011 on the tree dead on 3 for the win, car is consistent within a few hundredths so far. secures the by-run for 5th round.

ended up drawing Gary Williams waiting to see if I had a by . while suiting up Gary's notices my coil sitting on the ground, tabs broken. He waits and helps me zip tie it on to race. Gary's knows I've been struggling with the tree and puts some numbers in the box. I let go thinking Im red, car leaves green. should be dialed pretty well honest knowing Gary is holding. 1/2 Gary hasnt caught me even though he should of. I crack the throttle once, approaching finish line I realize I still have plenty of room to kill despite being pretty dead on. I leisurely crack the throttle a couple times in the traps not trying to make it super tight. Race ends up being I'm .000 dead on 0 (first perfect pass) taking .030 at the stripe, Gary was 20ish on the tree and 1 over. total accident perfect pass. in the semi's with the .000 light and not using it im sitting on the by again and get to use it, i trip the beams and head back to the trailer.

Running Gary's brother Troy in the final. Still struggling with the tree, knowing the car is moving around and Troy is holding atleast 5 i setup with the same dial I had with Gary. figure I MIGHT be holding 1-2 depending on the car. we leave I feel late on the tree and car isnt fast(it has a tell tale when it leaves). Half track I'm watching Troy put a wheel on me with no nitrous to do anything about it (hung fuel solenoid) roll through dumping sending him through .015 in front. i'm .036 on the tree giving him all the room in the world for the win.

I won the first Drag News Race for the Ring at RT66 with a 19 second street car.

Went 5 rounds in my class, 1 good race, 3 redlights against me, and in the final I got treed bad, but the other guy broke out a ton.

Ring race I drew the card for the bye. Ran the S/Pro car in the final. I was .035 on the tree and heard him go on the converter when I left, then heard him go back to idle. We get to the big end and I showered him with brake dust and ran 19:717 on a 19:71. He broke out after a .135 light.
