Yeah but sponsors aren't going to pay him a nickel to run a bracket race in front of zero fans and no TV.

As I watched a Kalitta Air 747 takeoff this morning,I realized that NHRA paying $15,000 to the Winner of Top Fuel really won't change the landscape of the sport of drag racing that much.

Maybe not, but it will for sure discourage any mid to smaller operations participating, no new blood. Thus it will for sure be mega teams only. Which is to say dominated by a monopoly of a few (granted it's virtually already there). Just like the mom & pop shops have been eliminated and only the big corporate stores are allow to open. Elimination of competition is never a good thing on many levels.

How about a comparison from NHRA executive salary to Pro racer payouts

Hypothetically, if NHRA had 30 races x 196,000 payout that's 6 million in payout over 30 races.

So if NHRA execs worked for free, NHRA could pay $30,000 to win Top Fuel as example.

It's still peanuts considering it probably cost's an average of $20,000 per lap.

If you're looking for someone to hate on over NHRA going belly up, you might wanna look at your elected officials who offshored America to china and locked the country down over a cold, or yourself for allowing either to occur. You reap what you sow.

I'd rather hard Truth than teddy bears and pixie dust.

The purse money is a formality.

You know years back the payout was low. Racers found ways to put on shows in front of crowds and make money. Now they might have slept in their tow rigs and ate at greasy spoons but they did it. Promoters knew how to get them to show up at their tracks and they all made money. They even changed their cars over on the road to fit different rules along the way. Racers even skipped NHRA events to chase the money and forced the NHRA to raise their payouts.

Make TF and FC run together like the Bud Shootout days.

Make Factory Stock Showdown cars the new pro stock or Make Mountain Motor Pro Stock the new Pro Stock

Make Pro Mods shift their own gears. And give incentive to use old bodies 1985 and Older.

........But I'd rather bracket race

The days of "Barn Storming" with a couple of Match Race Fuel cars are over. The current successful drag racing format is the High Dollar Bracket Events, like the "Fling Series", and there isn't a single fuel car on the property. Success isn't dependent on filling the stands, today it's filling the pits with Sportsman Racers and having a great purse structure.

Kalitta is the only Fuel Racer that can continue racing out of his own pocket, Force, Schumacher and the others rely on Sponsorship funding. Eleven and twelve car fields will be a tough sell to Sponsors. I won't say any more, NHRA's problem is obvious.

double trouble
I'm just guessing but somehow NHRA paid their bills with an 850 plus car count for the US Nationals.
All the NHRA part time event workers do so on min wage ($7.25 in Indiana) and almost no marketing at the race.
Times are tough. I for one would like to see NHRA make a comeback.
I don't see much love for NHRA here, and I don't think I can race no prep stuff at outlaw tracks where shows are run by street racers.

I'm not in a bad mood, I just look that way.........

It is in everyone's best interest for NHRA to survive and prosper.

Just a guess but whatever happens with the NHRA next year whether they survive this, get sold or file for bankruptcy, my bet is it will not be good for the NHRA sportsman racer

I know that they have had too many national events for far too long. Pro Stock proves that.

Slyfox you are dead on. If NHRA folds our race cars, Motorhomes/Tow vehicles and trailers would be DE-VALUED tremendously. I know there is always bracket racing but a good number of racers (800 at Indy) would be hurt by NHRA's down fall. Lets hope NHRA gets thru this.

When everything is coming your way, your probably in the wrong lane.

If nhra filed bk most wouldn’t even notice a change.

Doug Foley, guy hasn’t raced in 10 years and after one race He is the racing expert? Why not interview somebody like Lex Joon who has been plugging away at this and always keeps his hopes very high

IHRA put all of their hopes on bracket racing. The Summit Sportsman Spectacular events aren't doing good enough to get a post on a racing forum.
Let's see if any promoters have the balls to book a fuel car match race. Let's see if any of these professional racers have a big enough name to draw a crowd at a track like the outlaw bunch do.

Prize money is not important to the pros. TV exposure is what matters because the sponsors want to see them on TV. All the teams depend on sponsors, not prize money, to pay the bills.

I think prize money is very important to some of the smaller teams and this will cut them out.

Just think if you have a 3 or 4 car Top Fuel field how many people will pay $75 plus to watch?

No Spectators how many Sponsors would pay anything at all to put their name on a car? It is all about exposure and if there is not a lot of fans watching then they will spend their advertising dollars somewhere else.

SPONSORS WILL BE GONE VERY QUICKLY AFTER THE SPECTATORS. IF NHRA IS NOT CAREFUL THEY COULD CUT THEIR OWN THROATS HERE.

"Dunning-Kruger Effect"
-a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.
