Diapers for 2022

My understanding is that is a NHRA requirement for Diapers and most tracks are going to be enforcing it as they should.

I think that is one of the most important safety features you can have on your car.

Sure seatbelts and a helmet MAY save you in a crash but a diaper may save you from ever having that crash in the first place.

Some tracks may have different ET breaks on where it is required but I think most tracks are going to enforce it where ever it is set at.

Get your diapers guys. If Dictator Joe Biden can wear a Diaper you can to.

"Dunning-Kruger Effect"
-a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.

Agree, should be on all cars, if they can be fitted without chassis mods.

They might not tech but they can have a track requirement.

If it is a rule, I will do. Is a pain but relative to everything else, not a big issue. Slowed car to avoid once already, carry with me if needed. Probably more logical than belts every 2 years.

I use an aluminum pan from 2 inches in front of balancer to the flywheel and rail to rail with an absorbent mat. I have asked several track
(officials) if it's ok and they just say sure without really looking at it. Anyhow it does make me feel better and hopefully safer for everyone else.

I suggested to a track manager one time to advertise extra $100 to winners who run a diaper. He gave me a look like I was crazy. I would guess maybe 25% have them. I dunno, thought it was a good idea.

The long time dyed-in-the-wool number runners seem to look forward to winter/annual rules mandates. What rules are good and which are bad I'll leave up to the individual. However, endless rules stacked on top of each other over time is not conducive to new participants embracing a waining sport.

Problem with a blanket across the board diaper rule at your local track is you simply can't put one on allot of cars, especially any car with stock motor mounts.
The majority of diapers made are universal fit, if you have a front motor and mid plate you can generally figure something out as long as you can keep it off the headers and out of the flexplate. Dennis at DRE has some custom diapers but looks like he is not an option anymore

Pretty sure it just needs to have a 2” lip all the way around.

Several years ago I was at our first turnoff rolling up the chute when a friend came by with her dragster, pulled over out of the lane and stopped. While it was rolling I noticed a little flame at the header tube. I started walking over to see what was up and I saw some flames start licking up from under the engine. My walk turned in to a run, got her out of the car and yelled for the top end crew to hurry up. When they got there I grabbed the fire extinguisher and put out the small fire. Then I looked down at the belly pan and saw a rod cap sitting there!

After everything settled, hooked it up to a golf cart and she hopped back in the car. Went to put it in neutral and couldn’t because the shifter cable melted. Ended up needing some new wires, a shifter cable, and a carbon panel was slightly damaged.

That could have been really bad and she was lucky she stopped where she did and I happened to be there. The next year they replaced the belly pan with a diaper. The flame from the header pipe jumped down into the oil in the belly pan and caught it on fire. Less likely to happen with a diaper. With that said, my car has a dzus off belly pan that’s really convenient. Wife’s car has a diaper that’s a little more annoying but not too bad.

Word from most of the tracks around here is they are going to be checking and enforcing it. Now how long that lasts.........

It is a good idea and we used to do that at Silver Dollar Raceway.

I questioned the tech inspector at Bakersfield once why he didn't look underneath the truck. He said he didn't need to he could see the streps and had seen the underneath before.

If you have his ear tell him to have the new owners let us know. I have one of his and would buy a new one if I can get one just like it. The horizontal strap that goes around the back keeps the diaper out of the flexplate.
