does NHRA (or any organization) say anything about a certain "requirement" for the actual length of a track? as in from the starting line (or burnout box) to I guess the end of a sand trap. I've never read or seen anything; I have heard of certain tracks being a mile long. was just wondering if there is like a baseline or ideal length a land wise.

A rule of thumb is 2 times the length of racing surface.
1/8 mile = 1/4 mile shutdown ideally.
Obviously not every track has this much.

I'm not in a bad mood, I just look that way.........

Here is an interesting fun fact,
Pomona 1/4 mile dragstrip from the finish line to the start of the sand trap is 2002 feet,

Our local 1/8th mile track Xtreme raceway park is 1800 ft from finish line to start of the sand trap

I have raced TD at both, that sand trap at Pomona comes up really fast plus the shut down is very bumpy

A little easier stopping at Tulsa, isn't it Steve? 2710' of shutdown plus 200' of sand trap.

And the camera shows that! Lots of kitty litter stops.
Redding is short too here.

And it's up hill to! Now if only Hainey and Martin would only fix the ski jump bumps in both lanes around 1000 feet Eek

Let's not get carried away. LOL Actually I looked at my data from the nostalgia race in September last year where we ran 1/4. I see zero jumps in my driveshaft in either lane now. I used to see a huge jump just after the 1/8 in the right lane.

This is no help, but. When I started with IHRA they had a book covering the building of a new track. It had all the specifications used to build. Width, length, etc. I haven't seen it since though.
So the info is out there just have to figure out who to ask. Phil Gingrich is who had it when I saw it.
