Nancy Pelosi Chides Reporter for Using Term 'Illegal Aliens'

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi took issue with the term “illegal aliens” during a Wednesday press conference.

Reacting to a question from a reporter about whether President Obama’s planned executive actions should also deal with Iraqis living illegally in the United States, Pelosi corrected the reporter who used the term “illegal aliens.”

“Are you referring to undocumented people who are in the United States?” Pelosi questioned.

“Illegal aliens, yes ma’am,” the reporter responded.

“Undocumented people, OK,” Pelosi said again.

Advocates have pushed back in recent years against the term “illegal alien,” despite its common use in law enforcement — particularly by immigration enforcement agencies like Customs and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“Undocumented people, OK,” Pelosi said again.

CHICAGO — When he soared to victory by almost 10 million votes in 2008, President Obama won in states like Virginia that Democratic candidates had not captured since 1964. He was trumpeted as a transformational leader who remade American politics by creating a new electoral map and a diverse voter coalition to shape the Democratic Party for the 21st century.

But for now he has been reduced to something else: an isolated political figure who is viewed as a liability to Democrats in the very states where voters by the thousands had once stood to cheer him.

Michelle Obama repeatedly flubs candidate's name while campaigning for him

While campaigning in Des Moines, Iowa Friday for Democratic Senate candidate Bruce Braley, she referred to him multiple times as “Bailey” before she was corrected by someone shouting from the audience.

The flub came despite a huge array of signs in the hall where she was speaking, all spelling Braley’s name correctly.

The first lady also referred to Braley as a Marine Corps veteran, which he is not. Braley’s staff said she meant to refer to his late father, Byard Braley, a Marine who fought at Iwo Jima.

Braley’s opponent in the Senate race, Republican Joni Ernst, is a member of the Army reserve and National Guard.
