My cousin just recently retired as a Colonel and he had the choice of enlisting or jail time in his younger years. He was a Ranger.

VA head says 18 vets left off wait list have died

PHOENIX (AP) — In a new revelation in the growing Veterans Affairs' scandal, the organization's acting head says that an additional 18 veterans whose names were kept off an official electronic VA appointment list have died.

Acting VA Secretary Sloan Gibson said he would ask the inspector general to see if there is any indication those deaths were related to long wait times. If so, they would reach out to those veterans' families.

"I will come personally and apologize to the survivors,"

There has to have been criminal intent when the culprits were cutting care so there would be cash for larger bonuses!!!!!

It isn't politically correct to ever suggest that we shouldn't do more and spend more on veterans. I appreciate what veterans have done for us, and I say that with complete honesty. But I appreciate what police officers and firefighters and for that matter the teachers who have to put up with the kids of parents who think they can do no wrong...ever. But there is such a thing as "enough". What makes me mad is the waste of money with the VA. It has cost taxpayers a lot of money to serve veterans poorly.
The very same people who say that teachers make too much money and should get insurance like the rest of us will line up waving American flags to support spending more on veterans. Those same who say that it is ridiculous that senators get lifetime benefits, will give you a lashing over suggesting the same for military personal. It's just unpopular to say anything negative about distinguished veterans. There are great veterans, drug using veterans, rapist veterans, and thieving veterans. Just like any other profession. Now I get to be unpopular.

No argument there David. I just don't like the assumption that every veteran is a hero. Just like every priest isn't a saint. These are real people we are talking about. They make choices and sacrifices much like those in some other professions do. But we speak much differently about veterans. We generally don't thank police officers or firemen for their service for their community. Their jobs are dangerous....but they also knew that going in. Most do not thank teachers for what they do. But then teachers knew that it was a thankless job going in. I just don't think it should be veterans.....and then everyone else.

My Grandfather was a retired fireman and got injured in the line of duty. But fact is they are government employees that take it pretty easy. They signed up for the job, they are not hero's, That is a myth.
