How far is the Congress out of kilter?
We had a Supreme Court nominee go before a Senate committee and lie blatantly about her efforts to block military service recruiters on a college campus and she now sits on the Supreme Court!
Then we have Roger Clemens who is accused of using performance enhancing drugs by a slime bucket and he is being charged with lying to Congress????????????????????????

The few sensible people left there have been reading the tea leaves and realize after the election the Republicans will neuter "o-bomb's" business killing practices and people will not be afraid to invest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AFTER ALL, it only took the socialist donkies a year to torpedo the economy after they took control of congress!

You can't state how Dems killed business. When Reagan became president, he raised the self-employment tax from 9.3% in 1983 to 14% in 1984, and it kept rising until 1990 to 15.3%, when Bush senior was the president. So such a giant rise in the self employment tax occurred under the watch of Republicans. Republicans are about the rich, not business. Talk radio trumpets they pay more in dollars, but look analytically at what they pay in %.

The highest marginal tax rate if felt by a middle class American earning $106,800/year. This middle class American pays a marginal income tax rate of 28%, plus FICA tax of 12.4% (whether this is paid as a 12.4% self-employment tax, or as double 6.2% deductions from wages, the tax burden is identical) and Medicare tax of 2.9% on his/her entire income, for a total federal marginal tax rate of 43.3%.

Meanwhile, those in the supposedly top tax bracket (earning over $373,650/year in regular earned income) pay a marginal income tax rate of 35%, but have a 2.9% Medicare tax and zero% FICA tax on income over $106,000, thus yielding a total federal marginal tax rate of 37.9%.

An American trust fund baby with an income of $1,000,000/year consisting totally of long term capital gains pays a 15% capital gains tax, zero FICA tax, and beginning in 2013, a 3.8% Medicare tax, for a total federal marginal tax rate of 18.8%.

Standard & Poor's threatens to lower the U.S. bond rating if Obama does not accept the findings of the Fiscal Commission. With Sen. Simpson on there the commission may recommend SS takes a hit. Meanwhile it looks like Bush's tax cuts will get extended instead of raising the SS earnings cap. In 2009 the top ten hedge fund honchos averaged $900,000 an hour and they did it only because we bailed them out. Now we may subsidize their SS exemption with cuts for the rest and give them a $4T over 10 years exemption. They have already cost $2.48T.

Who was in control of Congress during that time!?

Take a look at the latest list of Congress' 50 richest members!

Who was in control of Congress when the overwhelming majority of legislation has been past that protected the rich and big business!?

The FICA rate was increased by President Reagan in an effort to keep Social Security solvent, something the socialist donkies are loathe to do even though they tout Social Security as their big accomplishment! After the increase the socialist donkies went about getting as many of their slovenly supporters, druggies, alkies and malingerers on the dole as possible, thousands of them to this date!

But Phil, what about the 47% that pay no federal income taxes?

According to the Times, which took a closer look at the data from the Tax Policy Center, “ income taxes aren’t the only kind of federal taxes that people pay.” There are payroll (Social Security and Medicare) taxes, capital gains taxes, as well as state and local taxes. In fact the Times confirms that “about three-quarters of all American households pay more in payroll taxes … than in income taxes.” When averaging the numbers together, “The typical family pays a lot of state and local taxes … almost half as much as in federal taxes.”

As far as the federal government is concerned, whether they are income taxes or payroll taxes, it is a distinction rather than a difference. As noted here and elsewhere, all receipts from taxpayers are deposited into the general fund from which disbursements are made to pay the government’s bills.

Is there a better number? What percentage of Americans pays no federal taxes at all? David Leonhardt, writing the in Economix Blog, says that by looking at the poorest fifth of all households in the country, the latest data show they pay a “total net federal tax rate [of] 4.3 percent. The average income-tax for this group was indeed below zero: -6.6 percent. But the combined rate of payroll, investment and excise taxes was 10.9 percent, leading to a net positive rate of 4.3 percent…. This suggests that fewer than half of them pay no federal taxes … that at most about 10 percent of all households pay no net federal taxes.”

The analysis by the Tax Policy Center confirms Leonhardt’s estimate. When measuring “tax units with zero or negative individual income tax,” the percent of all “tax units” is 46.9 percent. But when looking at “tax units with zero or negative income and payroll tax” is 13.4 percent, very close to Leonhardt’s estimate. [Emphasis added.] So, approximately one out of nine taxpayers pays no federal tax.

yep. cut and paste. Topic is should millionaires get a tax cut while SS may also get another age hike. Instead people are worrying if someone making $10K a year is paying taxes. As more money is concentrated in fewer hands, what happens? They can only use 3 or so homes. House sales tank. No point in owning more than 6 cars. (My current countSmile) Car sales tank. If no one buys people lose jobs and it's a Catch 22. Trickle down is an excuse.

Bush tax cuts should expire.
680,000 jobs lost and thousands of jobs shipped overseas while BIG business stuffed their pockets during the bush era.
Yep, those crooks know how to play the system.

No new jobs were created. 2 recessions and the housing market crumbled. Wallstreet colapsed and bush's TARP plan failed.

Yep, let the bush tax cuts expire and lets make the crooks start paying just like all Americans are paying in taxes.
Lets put an end to tax cheats like kosky.......

Petraeus Condemns Dove World Outreach's Plan To Burn Qurans: 'It Could Endanger Troops'

The U.S. Embassy in Kabul issued a statement condemning Dove World Outreach Center's plans, saying Washington was "deeply concerned about deliberate attempts to offend members of religious or ethnic groups."

Protesters who had gathered in front of Kabul's Milad ul-Nabi mosque raised placards and flags emblazoned with slogans calling for the death of Obama, while police looked on. They burned American flags and a cardboard effigy of Dove World Outreach Center's pastor, Terry Jones, before dispersing peacefully.

The Gainesville, Florida-based Dove World Outreach Center announced plans to burn copies of the Quran on church grounds to mark the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, but has been denied a permit to set a bonfire. The church, which made headlines last year after distributing T-shirts that said "Islam is of the Devil," has vowed to proceed with the burning.

"We know this is not just the decision of a church. It is the decision of the president and the entire United States," said Abdul Shakoor, an 18-year-old high school student who said he joined the protest after hearing neighborhood gossip about the Quran burning.

Judge Overturns Nebraska Ban On Flag Mutilation, Siding With Westboro Church's Right To Protest Military Funerals

OMAHA, Neb. — A federal judge overturned Nebraska's ban on flag mutilation Thursday, clearing the way for Kansas church protesters to continue trampling on the U.S. flag when they protest at military funerals.

The ruling from U.S. District Judge Richard Kopf said the law can't be applied as long as Megan Phelps-Roper and fellow members of the Westboro Baptist Church "otherwise act peacefully while desecrating the American or Nebraska flag during their religiously motivated protests."

Just a slight difference here. The feds know these deadbeats have not paid their taxes!
If the feds don't know about unpaid taxes one is as pure as the wind driven snow!
Other than a small penalty for not paying enough estimated tax we've never been flagged!

The conservative 60 Plus Association has launched a flurry of ads against 16 Democrats, many of them in tight House races. The group is spending more than $5 million – from donors whose identities it doesn’t have to disclose – to run the ads saying the lawmakers "betrayed" their constituents by voting for the health care overhaul signed into law earlier this year. That’s a matter of opinion, of course.
But most of the ads also make statements that can’t be backed up, lack important context or are wrong.

Some of the ads say that the law means "seniors could lose their doctors" or that it "threatens seniors’ ability to keep their own doctor." But what the ads are talking about here has nothing to do with the new health care law. Some doctors have said they may stop accepting Medicare patients because of scheduled payment cuts set in motion by a 1997 law, cuts that are unaffected by the new statute.

All of the ads say that the new law cuts $500 billion from Medicare. It’s true that the law would restrain future growth of the program, but this isn’t cutting from existing spending. And the amount is spread over 10 years, totaling about 7 percent of what Medicare was projected to cost over that decade.

Many of the ads feature seniors saying the law will "hurt the quality of our care." But the law specifically forbids cuts in the basic package of Medicare benefits, and even adds some new features, such as wellness checkups. It also closes the "doughnut hole" gap in the prescription drug benefit.
