See, he's in your head!

HalverstadtI believe a big reason the TD/TS fields don't fill for NHRA is because it costs so much money to field even a "slow" TD/TS entry most are not willing to take 2 days off work, travel hundreds of miles, and beat up their stuff without a guarantee they will be racing first round. We all work or have worked too hard not to have the opportunity to race E1 in a sportsman level class.
I appreciate that qualified field racing is awesome, but it is not always practical in this era. PDRA is successful with these two classes because of their B field and Open Comp guarantee that you will be racing if your car is running. NHRA should adopt a similar model with a Top Comp class for TD/TS non-qualifiers + racers who just want to bracket race 1/4 mile. Regardless of whether or not you prefer 1/4 mile or 1/8 mile, quarter mile bracket racing should still be available to those who want to race that way. NHRA could even make Top Comp a points series that counts as another competing track at the Division's Summit ET finals which looks to be shrinking because of IHRA.
Another option would be making TD/TS an open field at Divisionals and keep nationals at 32 entries; or changing the ET break rules to so long as you can run 7.00 / 7.25 or faster you're in the program. Any of these changes would probably boost the car count overnight.
