I am not a fan of "combo" races of any kind...there are some bottom bulbers who can hold their own against top bulb folks but not very many...yes, bottom bulb folks win every now and then against top bulb guys but the odds are huge against them...I choose to not take those odds...bracket racing is hard enough as it is... I noticed the NHRA has done the combo deal at their gamblers race at the division two finals in Gainesville...have a nice time is all I will say... p.s. I should clarify the above...if an event had a reasonable entry/payout for the bottom bulbers and then put that winner into the top bulb section for an additional payout, I am all for that deal...who wouldn't be?...around here that is not the way it is...the bottom bulber left standing gets a small bonus, like $500, and then goes against the top bulb folks for the big payout...no bueno...This message has been edited. In a case like this though, as a foot feeder I would be all for it every race. They pay me the regular payout for winning in Foot Brake then allow me a chance at the payout in Top for the same money? That is a good deal for the lowly foot braker. Not so much for the Top guys. A $100 entry for a $1000 footbrake purse is definitely not a "regular" payout around here. Typically, it is usually $40 for $1000 or $50 for $2,000 or numbers somewhere in that ballpark. Take care. Heck I would still do it for $100 to win $1000 + the Top purse. Sounds like a good deal to me. Me too, but probably for the opposite reason. In my world, 3 tracks within a 200 mile circle, all pay 2000 to win the combo 750 to win the class. All are roughly 90 bucks per class. Most of the no box cars enter both classes. Some use a box, most don't. At these races the no box guys have twice as many runs (at least twice as many time trials) as the box cars giving them the advantage. I don't keep track of which wins more, but it seems like the no box cars are in the winners circle a lot. Of course this brings the question of whether a box car is cheating in the no box class, but we don't spend too much time worrying about it. I have seen boxes hanging from the fence during a no box round. | |||

Ironically, this exact scenario played out for me, at exactly this same location, on Friday. However, I actually have no complaints with how it worked out. I got to enter a no b*yback bracket race for $40. Regardless of the payout or format, that is a bargain for me. It was a Gambler's Race. No other details were posted, but I was fine with what they did. All the footbrakers were combined until there was only one left. As it turned out, I got lucky and that footbraker was me. I was then combined with the four remaining delay box racers. At that point, I lost. I made a decent pass (for me), but it didn't get the job done. Would have loved to have advanced even ****her, but it wasn't to be. Still had a ball. Would I do it again? Sure. Would I do it again with a $100 entry fee and the rest of the deal? Not a chance.
