Those of you that use one, what are you placing between it and your engine diaper? I am thinking it may get extremely hot to make direct contact with diaper. Possibly a piece of welding blanket? Thanks in advance.

I got a heat small heat protection pad from Lowes that plumbers use when they are soldering pipes, works great. 272" Spitzer 540 Chevy The Blower Shop XR1 FTI XPM Series Converter FTI Level 6 Powerglide 3.69@199 .916 60' 2017 Bradenton Heads Up Madness Open Outlaw Champ 2018 PDRA T/D #5 2019 PDRA T/D #2 2020 Retired From T/D Competition.... 2020 Bradenton NMCA Hemi Shootout Winner 2021 getting back into bracket racing with a Gen3 Hemi powered 87 Cutlass.

There are these. https://www.heatshieldproducts.com/thermaflect-shield I use the cartridge style in the pan so I don't have to worry about this. Curtis ____________________________ 2017 and 2018 Osage Casinos Tulsa Raceway Park No-Box Champion 2018 Div4 Goodguys Hammer award winner

I used to use the pad years ago. Burned myself once and the diaper twice and switched to a probe. I had to weld a bung into the pan. However, the pad always seemed to heat things up faster and without any burning of the oil. Foxtrot Juliet Bravo

I made my own cartridge heater and I don’t have an oil burning problem, but the pad has more surface area so it should heat faster and is less likely to burn because the heat is less concentrated. ____________________________ 2017 and 2018 Osage Casinos Tulsa Raceway Park No-Box Champion 2018 Div4 Goodguys Hammer award winner

All of those heat shields say they need air space to reflect the heat. Since the diaper is right against the oil pan how much does it help. I've got the heater and the diaper but hesitated to use it after reading where people had problems. Has anyone put the insulation against the heating pad on the oil pan and felt to see how much is transferred before they put the diaper on?

This is the one I use. No evidence of the diaper or pad getting hot with it. https://m.lowes.com/pd/Oatey-S...me-Protector/1043403 272" Spitzer 540 Chevy The Blower Shop XR1 FTI XPM Series Converter FTI Level 6 Powerglide 3.69@199 .916 60' 2017 Bradenton Heads Up Madness Open Outlaw Champ 2018 PDRA T/D #5 2019 PDRA T/D #2 2020 Retired From T/D Competition.... 2020 Bradenton NMCA Hemi Shootout Winner 2021 getting back into bracket racing with a Gen3 Hemi powered 87 Cutlass.

Is their any advantage to using a heating pad rather than the heating element that screws inside the oil pan?

What effect does the addition of a barrier between the element and diaper padding have? Seems like some of the products people use would hinder the diapers ability to absorb any fluids if there was catastrophic failure. 72 Nova "Hooptie"

More surface area so it's less concentrated therefor less likely to burn the oil. You don't have to drill and weld a bung into the pan. Easy to change if the wire breaks. Just a few of the pluses I can think of. The downside is needing something to protect the diaper, the adhesive turning loose and it falling off, the silicone they are made of will harden and break up over time, it looks bad in my opinion but that doesn't really affect how well it works. We used a Moroso pad heater then thin Stainless steel plate then insulated the plate. Nevre had trouble melting the diaper and our was a cheap one. Since then went to a containment pan, so much easier to keep clean and to work on anything. Most important, keep the shiny side up
