Thank you. I've seen this list. But which one would give the best performance.

I have been running the MSD 8201 coil with 7AL-3 in my cars for 20 years and never an issue. You can spend more, but why. Even the MSD compatibility list indicates "preferred" for 7AL-3 is the 8201.

8201 for me. I have a 25 year old spare in the trailer just because I replaced mine for no reason.

I think the voltage and other specs on these are almost same as expensive MSD coils. I am running the MSD 8261 but have one of the cheap Ford coils in my trailer as a spare. I suspect the MSD coil is basically the $15 Ford type coil in a nice pretty $300 package. I have had one of the 8201 MSD coils go bad.

Or one of these generic ones.

Because MSD controls are capacitive discharge and drop +425v across the coil positive terminal, I prefer using MSD coils. You wrote “drag and drive” and Blaster series coils are probably an excellent choice if you presently have one, or I would choose 8252. If money is not an issue, then 8261 would be my choice.

Like several of the other folks I have been using a 8201 more than a decade without any problems. Small, compact, inexpensive and easy to mount. If it ever fails I would replace it with another one.

To all the people recommending the 8201 coil, Is this on a street car, that drives 100's of miles? Because they are listed as a short duration coil by MSD and the OP said it was for a drag and drive car.

Without data, you’re just another guy with an opinion.

I just started to say the same when I read your comment.
