No better example...bracket racing is full of broke dycks and dumb asses.^^^
Please explain yourself. I race most every weekend, usually 200-300 passes a year. I have yet to break an axle. I agree that a 40 spline axle is stronger than a 35 spline axle but the question is was it needed? Do you run a billet crank shaft Ed?

this discussion is about axle spline/strength in a sub 7.50s dragster.
You're been lucky, not smart running 35 spline axles and no professional race car build would install 35 spline axles in the OP's car today no mind yours!
Prior to UCM shutting down, the only option as to the axles was who made them. ALL their cars got 40 spline axles as do American cars and Racetech.

Perhaps I should elaborate on my reasons for going to 40 spline axles after having to replace the broken 35’s.
The cost was exactly the same, $742 for either 35 or 40 spline axles. The only additional expense was buying the $319 40 spline spool.
I had to wait for the next two SS checks to help pay for it.
Regardless of which axles I chose, I still had to buy wheel studs, the bearings and pay for the destroyed caliper bracket.
Now the issue is finding the money to go to the LODRS event at Fontana in May. Maybe sell a kidney?

I am pretty sure the “Topic” as in the title is about Strange 35 spline axles. But than you claim to know more than most including the OP who obviously asked the wrong question to fit your agenda.

Toad1 again my experience is first hand running almost every weekend,be it NHRA Nationals,Divisionals, brackets race or the Fling. I am just reporting what I have experienced. Sure we can all find stuff to upgrade on our cars but the question you asked was about your 35 spline axle. Some people get off track real easy and then must resort to name calling in an attempt to justify what they have only read on the internet without their own first hand knowledge.

I disagree with your statement above! Just look at Scott Shafiroff (Spelling) Engines. It's all about price! So while I agree when building a new car, going to the 40 spline stuff is the smart move, but price is what sells so that's the number most will use, meaning the less expensive stuff will be used in the big advertisements and having the desert menu off to the side as cost adders!

Al, this conversation isn't about marketing, it's about safety relative to ET.
Again, I'm not aware of 1 professional race car builder, specifically that builds bracket/super comp/top dragsters that builds their cars today with 35 spline axles. The only choice you the end user has is manufacturer of the axles/3rd member.
FYI, I still have the quotes from Undercover, Chrome Worxs/Ultra Cars, American and Racetech from 2013 when I was going to build a new dragster, ALL included as part of their build 40 spline axles.

I've seen several broken 35 spline strange axles in dragsters. Most of them were twisted a good 5-10 splines off before they let go. It happens a lot actually.

Not at any race I can recall being at. Ring and pinions, yes. Trans occasionally but usually nowhere near as often as in the past. I do not care for Strange anything and have nothing of theirs on my car. Goes back many years with me and my experiences with them and their products. I don’t doubt anyone that says they saw it happen but I have not.

What is everyones' opinion on gun drilled vs non, for 1900 lb, 1254 HP, looking to be 8.90@186?
To add in on the conversation, 2007 Undercover going 4.70s at 2100 lbs with 35 spline original axles around 1300 passes. So far no issues, but don't want to find out the hard way.

The overall price diffence when building a new car is nothing, and when switching is 300 bucks....
