In a footbrake/no-box bracket eliminator, would a progressive nitrous controller be legal, if following the rulebook? I have seen where a timer is illegal on a nitrous system and wondered if that made any sort of controller illegal. Take care. Then they should make EFI illegal. Why do I say that? With my Holley system, I can vary timing against time and/or rpm. I can Progressively control nitrous, or run it at 100% at the hit and use timing to control the power (which is the method I prefer). Hopefully they (NHRA) continue to let us run aftermarket EFI. All new cars can launch in Drive and use software to control the shift points, going to make that illegal? | |||

There is so much gray area here to me. The n2o timer? I dunno. My knee jerk would be no go. But how could a modern car off the street not be legal in footbrake? They all have complicated electronics. If you reprogram the stock ecm....where are we? What about a piggyback? Different ECU? Where do you draw the line? What about other classes? One could very easily argue that many aftermarket EFI's should not be allowed in box class. But should we really not allow any modern fuel delivery in any of bracket racing? That's a good way to limit your participation population. On the other hand, many old schoolers are already suspicious of anything electronic.....data loggers....programable ignitions.....anything. It's all cheating to some. I don't know what the answer is. But I do know that there has always been a class for just about everyone. From footbrake street cars to full e box cars. Just looked at both the NHRA and IHRA rulebooks for 2019. All I see is "Nitrous Oxide Permitted" in both. Totally legal, UNLESS it's paired with illegal devices like track location sensors or wheel sensors. Of course, in bracket racing, LOCAL RULES trump everything in the published rules packages.
