Racers, I am looking at other options beyond MSD products. Any feedback in ref to Shiftnoid products? Or other RPM switch products? Larry Woodfin

Dedenbear RPM-2 is the best non-MSD rpm module that I’ve used and seen in other cars.

I have a Digital Delay RPM switch. I have no data to say how good it is, but it makes the shift and the car is consistent. Tony Leonard

After fighting for over a year of shifting issues with other products and an RF issue. Not knowing if it was going to shift or not. Pulled it all out and went straight to the Digital Delay RPM switch. Not one problem. Set it and forget it. Can even test the shifter/system. Best money you'll ever spend.

Well just to answer the original question I have one of the adjustable rpm chips and one of their electric activated solenoids. I have no idea how old the solenoid is because it came with the car but it is still going strong and I have had it 11 years. The adjustable chip I use when I have pro tree raced to adjust my starting line rpm. It has worked well for me. The down side to the Adjust-a-chip is you have to either measure the resistance or put it in and try it to know where it is set. Just my experience with their products is all. As far as the adjustable chips go I have a Shifnoid and an MSD. Both work fine and are easy to adjust. I use mine for launch RPM.

I have another thread on here with more details but we have a year old Shiftnoid unit with a brand new Digital Delay RPM switch. It works perfectly when testing via the internal program, works perfectly when the car is on stands tested at various RPM levels and apparently works just fine during the burnout but it won't make the 1-2 shift going down track. I have been told RF issue, a binding issue and a tach output issue. We have to wait until the next race but I have an idea that the Shift Point setup is the problem with the D/D switch. With Shift Point #1 set for the 1/2 shift and our burnout rpm about the same, it performs the shift but the box does not go back to Shift Point #1 until the RPM drops below 2000 and we had an issue with the carb throttle last week keeping a high idle. On alky we normally hit the shaft pivots with some WD-40 but that wasn't done. So I am thinking that the box moved on to Shift Point #2 which is set to 0000 so nothing happened.

I have a shiftnoid and the Biondo timer in a 3 spd trans. That mess has been perfect for years and never missed a shift---after it was all set up right

Set shift point #2 to same as shift # 1. Redundancy Put a N/C switch in the Hi gear position that feeds the shifter. When in Hi gear it disables redundant shift from DD box.

Wide, just gathering information. As of now, I am staying with MSD. I have much invested in MSD products plus the tester so it is reasonable to use what I have. Might make a change in the future. Larry Woodfin

The least expensive non-stand-alone rpm or time activation device imho, MSD Grid.

X2 on everything TD3550 said. I fooled with the cheaper ones and was never happy with their performance. Shelled out the bucks for the DD and have never had anything but perfect shifts. '76 Camaro 400 SBC Powerglide Dana 60...4.88 Gear 2445# on the Track Best Pass:9.43@142.xx

Does your delay box allow you to shift through it? I was thinking the newer digital delay stuff will allow you to shift off of time or rpm. I shift off time out of k&r. I personally like it, and have been doing it now for 3 years, before that I shifted out of the ignition box and had 0 issues. That is with a glide. Jeremiah Hall

Grid can do this FB only shifting “without” starting the Time from Launch Timer. Program any rpm from 1 to 14,900 for shifting.

Here’s some of the great features in Grid. It can be programmed to shift your transmission with a delay box or TB button input using the Time from Launch Timer feature, OR, it’ll shift the car when FB with no input to Grid. Put the delay box in and remove it the next round for FB and Grid will shift at the same rpm. No reprogramming between rounds and nothing to arm.
